Footballing rivalries aside, almost every fan in the Premier League wants Tottenham Hotspur to lose against Manchester United on Tuesday. Spurs pose the biggest threat to City’s title defense and will do so at the cost of Arsenal.
The Gunners need a result from Tottenham if they are to claw their way back into the race. Fans on social media are calling for Spurs to lose so that Arsenal fall short of the title.
While social media is a far cry from reality, fans calling for Spurs to lose managed to catch the attention of their boss Ange Postecoglou. In a recent interview, the boss had a go at fans calling for them to lose. He stressed that something must be wrong with those that want his team to lose just so that Arsenal face the repercussions. Arsenal players on the other hand, are backing Spurs to get a result!
90% of them want Spurs to lose, but if it's your world then you need counseling. I understand rivalries but I'll never understand wanting your own team to lose.Ange Postecoglou said in a press conference
Spurs however, have the upper hand in terms of head-to-head in their own stadium. Surprisingly, Man City have never won a Premier League game at Tottenham’s new stadium.
Arsenal fans attempt to spoil Man City players’ sleep ahead of crucial game
With the Premier League title at stake, a group of Arsenal fans did the unthinkable to hamper Manchester City players ahead of the clash. As per a clip shared on social media, Arsenal fans bursted crackers outside a hotel which was assumed to be where the Man City players were staying for the day.
The fact that ultras group Ashburton Army posted clips of the same on social media has also been seen as an ‘act of war’ by many City supporters. The videos were posted under a sarcastic caption which asked fans if they all had a good night’s sleep. The Marriott Hotel in Waltham was victim to the fans’ act to ‘spoil’ City’s plan.
However, other reports claim that City spent the night in Manchester before coming down to the Etihad on Tuesday morning. Therefore, any attempt to distrub the players’ sleep only resulted in innocent visitors losing their sleep.
As it stands, Arsenal are on top of the League, with 86 points from 37 games. City are a game behind and breathing down the Gunners’ neck with just a point less.
