Angel Di Maria says it would be ‘wonderful’ to play with Messi at PSG next season

Lionel Messi is out of contract at Barcelona this season and rumours are rife about his potential destination next season. Messi’s Argentine teammate Angel Di Maria has now weighed in on the issue and claimed that he would love to see the 6-Ballon D’Or winner play at PSG.

Lionel Messi was on the verge of leaving Barcelona last season after their 8-2 humiliation against Bayern Munich in Europe but the Spanish club held on to their best asset. French giants PSG are rumoured to be just one of the teams tracking Messi’s situation.

Speaking to BeIn Sports, Di Maria said: “From my whole career, from everything I’ve seen, I think Leo is from another planet. To have him as a team-mate would be wonderful.

“But he is a Barcelona player, he has a contract. After that, we’ll see. I talk a lot with him and I always tell him that the important thing is his happiness and that of his family. It’s hard to say anything else.”

However, the final decision ultimately rests with Lionel Messi if he wants to continue at his boyhood club or look for new destinations this season. He has repeatedly made it clear that he wants to complete this season first as Barcelona are in the race to win the domestic double this season.

Di Maria had also fuelled rumours of Messi joining Paris before the 2 sides met in the Champions League quarter finals. ‘Yes, yes, I hope so,’ Di Maria said when asked whether Messi could join him in Paris. ‘There are many possibilities. We have to be calm and things will develop.’

Barcelona are increasingly hopeful of keeping Messi this summer. New president Joan Laporta has been bullish over their chances of getting the six-time Ballon d’Or winner to stay.
