Angel Reese is having an outstanding rookie season in the WNBA. The Chicago Sky star has exceeded all expectations and is in continuous discussions in the Rookie of the Year race against fellow rookie and rival Caitlin Clark. She is currently setting a record that has made her one of one in league history. That said, the performance of her teammates towards the end of the game has left fans upset.

In today’s game against the Atlanta Dream, the Sky were on course to win the game with their 7-point lead. Sky rising star Chennedy Carter raced up with the ball into the Dream’s half with 17 seconds left but then stopped. Then after Angel Reese made her way into the paint, she eventually received the ball after Carter passed the ball to Marina Mabrey. The rookie took two steps towards the basket and was fouled. With her ensuing first free throw, she ended up recording double-digit points.

Why fans found this entire scenario bizarre was due to two reasons. Firstly, by the time Angel Reese received the ball, there were only 7 seconds left on the clock. With a 7-point deficit, there was no reason for the Atlanta Dream to foul Reese.

Secondly, there was no reason to try to extend the score. Except if the Sky were helping Reese extend the double-double record she is currently holding, suggesting that she is resorting to stat padding to etch her name in WNBA history.

It has been 14 games since Angel Reese started recording double-double performances. This consecutive streak has helped her set the record for such a feat in WNBA history. But today’s outing made fans upset. They alleged that the rookie, her Chicago Sky teammates and possibly the league are in on the task of helping her continue the record. After all, it leads to a proper narration.
