When Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark prepared for their sophomore seasons in the WNBA, they hoped the public trials and tribulations of their rookie campaign would not continue. The two preferred to let their game do the talking.

Even before the 2025 season started, the Chicago Sky star had to deflect controversial questions about comparisons with her rival. At the time, it seemed she did not want to go down that route again after facing extreme backlash.

All that effort was tossed out of the window on opening night when Reese reacted aggressively after Clark seemingly pushed her to the ground. Former NFL quarterback Robert Griffin III claimed the Sky star’s reaction proved she ‘hated’ her college rival.

That sparked off a debate that ended up with the QB having to defend his family. Now that wound has opened up again after he stumbled upon an edited picture of Angel Reese’s 2K26 cover.

In a lengthy post on X, he first addressed the racist image. But then, quickly drifted into revealing how a post from Angel Reese during that ‘hate’ discourse led to his family receiving various alarming threats.

He claimed that he posted his original analysis after learning from her ‘inner circle’ about Reese’s ‘hate’ towards Caitlin Clark. This post came to the attention of the WNBA rebounding phenom, and she posted this on X:

Lying on this app when everybody know the first and last name of everybody in my circle for clout is nastyyyy work.

The Chicago Sky star is essentially calling the former QB a liar for claiming to know her inner circle. She believes he is doing this for clout as he was at the receiving end of all the brickbats last time around.

Robert Griffin III urged to connect with Angel Reese

As soon as both their posts went viral, the majority of the people reacting to the posts wanted Robert Griffin III to stop trying to make this about himself. The former QB understood the tide was again turning against him, and he tried to make peace by asking for unity.

I agree. That’s why I suggest you call Angel Reese and stop posting about her.

This was Dr. Martin Luther King‘s youngest daughter, Bernice King, who urged the 35-year-old to call Angel Reese and discuss their opinions. She believes he should stop posting about her altogether, else matters could continue to get out of hand.

Last time around, the Black community rallied behind the Maryland native, and it led to some tense moments with some of his former colleagues at ESPN. One of them, Ryan Clark, has taken note of this latest situation.

Desperation will force you to make things up! It’s ok to take the L & move on some times. Lying just makes it worse.

He hopes the former quarterback listens to him this time and stops making matters worse for him. Now that the Black community has again rallied behind Angel Reese, it could affect Griffin III’s life more than he would want.

The LSU alum has in the past clarified that she does not ‘hate’ Caitlin Clark. At the same time, some others believe the WNBA and media are manufacturing this ‘rivalry’ to suit their need to create drama and bring in fans and, hence, revenue.
