Chicago Sky star Angel Reese's WNBA salary pales in comparison to her endorsements

WNBA star Angel Reese finished her debut season on a high note. A season-ending injury stopped her from continuing her record-breaking run as the league’s top rebounder. But for all her efforts, she earned a paltry sum as her salary. However, that has not deterred the Chicago Sky star from indulging in luxuries, one of which drew criticism from many.

Fans unloaded on Angel Reese after she claimed that her WNBA salary was not enough to cover her $8k monthly rent. Watching her receive continuous criticism, one of her fans wrote a response.“Do y’all not see the collaborations and endorsements Angel has? I’m sure she doesn’t see that 8k leave her account.” This tweet came to the attention of the Chicago Sky star, who replied with some words of her own.

Sister these folks don’t use common sense at all….

The Maryland native found the criticism appalling as news about her multiple endorsements has been doing the rounds for long. Even in the video, she made it clear that she does not even know her salary. Moreover, she did not complain about her WNBA salary not being enough. In fact, she was talking about how she focuses on other income streams to support her high living costs, including that $8000 rent.

The former LSU star even has a luxury automobile, something that only a rare few in the league could afford if going by their salary. At LSU, she was one of the major beneficiaries of college NIL deals. She even held the title of one of the highest-paid student-athletes. Once she set foot in the WNBA, she used her already burgeoning fan following to sign other endorsements, which made her millions.

Angel Reese is moving on to investments and ownership to increase her portfolio

Other than endorsements, Angel Reese has been actively looking to invest and increase her asset portfolio. Her becoming a part owner in the USL Super League professional soccer team DC Power FC exemplifies that. Now, she is also one of the first equity holders in the new Unrivaled Basketball league.

Such moves are unprecedented for a 22-year-old in any form of sport. But ‘Chi-Barbie’ is intent on creating a portfolio for the long term. She knows all too well that the endorsements she is signing now will not be around once she is done playing.

Such long-term thoughts suggest she is either heavily focused on business or has an inner circle that is helping her plan out her future. Whatever that may be, she is blazing a trail that other WNBA or women’s basketball players could follow.
