Angel Reese gets confronted on basketball flaw by WNBA legend Lisa Leslie: “It’s fixable for you”

WNBA legend Lisa Leslie points out Angel Reese's biggest flaw

Angel Reese has been working hard to refine her game. As the WNBA offseason continues to progress, Reese has opted to earn some more in-game experience by participating in the Unrivalled League. The Chicago Sky forward has also been on a stellar offseason run off the court with her podcast, with her latest guest being WNBA legend Lisa Leslie, who offered some strong advice.

On the latest episode of the ‘Unapologetically Angel’ podcast, Leslie joined Reese to address some of her issues on the court. In the interview, Leslie addressed the issue of Reese’s struggles finishing under the rim head-on in a candid conversation. Given her status as one of the greatest post-players in WNBA history, her advice could prove to be crucial for Angel Reese‘s development.

I can’t wait to work with you some more. The biggest advice I have for you is going to be how you shoot your lay-ups. We’re going to fix that – it’s fixable for you. You’re going to get better, and I can help you get better.

Lisa Leslie’s advice addressed a key weakness in Reese’s game. Despite averaging a solid 13.6 points per game as a rookie, Reese shot just 39.1% from the field, including a 44.5% success rate on attempts from within five feet and 42.4% on layups. As one of the premier under-the-rim players in the WNBA, these are staggering numbers for the Chicago Sky forward.

For now, Leslie has taken on a mentor-like role for Angel Reese, working with her at the Unrivaled League alongside Minnesota Lynx star Napheesa Collier in a video showing the premier stars getting some work in before their game. Reese, who missed the latter part of her rookie season due to wrist surgery, has previously acknowledged her shooting struggles, letting fans know that her current performance is ‘the worst you’ll ever see me.’

Angel Reese is showing off improvement in the Unrivaled League

Angel Reese’s Rose BC entered the Unrivaled League with high expectations, but a slow start initially left them scrambling. However, they have turned things around, climbing to third place in the standings following their recent 71-63 victory over Mist BC.

Reese played a key role in the win, posting 12 points, 6 rebounds, an assist, and a steal in just 11 minutes of action. While she didn’t finish the game in the fourth quarter, her performance was a promising sign of her continued growth on the floor.

The talent on Rose BC’s roster has been undeniable from the start, featuring names like Brittany Sykes, Chelsea Gray, Lexie Hull, Kahleah Copper, and Azura Stevens alongside Reese. However, for much of the season, Angel Reese’s playing time has been somewhat limited due to her offensive struggles. Now, with her scoring efficiency improving, she’s making a strong case for more minutes.

Through seven games in the Unrivaled League, Reese is averaging 10.1 points and 9.6 rebounds per game in just 11 minutes of play. Her rebounding numbers remain elite, and as she continues to fine-tune her scoring with the added help from Lisa Leslie, she could become one of the most impactful players in the league. Fans won’t have to wait long to see her in action again, as Unrivaled play resumes next Tuesday with Reese’s team, Rose BC, set to take the floor against Vinyl BC.
