Angel Reese started her sophomore season in the WNBA intending to take the next step in her career. Her Chicago Sky had retooled the roster, which displayed its problems early on as chemistry issues plagued their performance on the court.
The first game was an embarrassment against Caitlin Clark‘s Indiana Fever. The 23-year-old managed to finish the night with a double-double, but something that transpired between the two college rivals blew up a hate-based discourse that caught the attention of the entire country.
Former NFL quarterback Robert Griffin III felt Reese’s reaction to Clark’s foul was personal. He believed the Sky forward had underlying hatred towards the reigning WNBA rookie of the year. That notion was shot down, and a war of words started between RGIII and another former NFL star, Ryan Clark.
It became ugly after Clark took shots at his former ESPN colleague’s wife, Grete. Since then, the situation turned for the worse, and eventually, Clark apologized. Now, psychologist Dr. Umar claims there is more to this than it seems.
With his wife in the background, RGIII proceeds to insult and belittle Angel Reese. He mocked her, using stereotypical black ghetto behavioural demonstration. Talked about how Angel Reese hates Caitlin Clark. Excuse me, RGIII, how do you know this? You went from snowbunny to snowbunny, and then you got the audacity to belittle a black woman to make your white wife feel better about herself.

The motivational speaker believes Robert Griffin III does not understand the perils of a black woman. Dr. Umar believes the QB’s relationships with white women have clouded his mind, and he did not understand why Angel Reese reacted towards Caitlin Clark in that manner.
Dr. Umar believes Robert Griffin III was hypocritical towards Angel Reese
Dr. Umar is known for his black community-favoring takes. His wild takes generally center around those from his community who chose to side with white people. In the Angel Reese situation, the psychologist believes Robert Griffin III was hypocritical.
Don’t even mention a white woman, you should be fired. But it’s ok for me to perfectly disrespect this young kid. This young 23-year-old sister, who has been disrespected enough, and I’m going to add on top of it.

The 50-year-old author believes RGIII bringing Ryan Clark’s job into the fold was him building his defense. That is what forced the ESPN analyst to apologize. At the same time, the former Washington Redskins found it alright to talk about Angel Reese negatively, despite knowing what she has faced over the years. Dr. Umar believes RGIII was completely in the wrong for making two black people look bad in one take.
Angel Reese chose to stay quiet about this
Angel Reese, however, had tried to de-escalate this incident with Caitlin Clark. She had no control over the narratives that were building up off the court. At the same time, she chose to stay quiet and let things quiet down on their own.

Thankfully for her, Robert Griffin III and Ryan Clark’s beef helped turn the discourse into something personal between them. Then, after Clark’s apology, they have all moved on and seem to have completely skipped the WNBA.
Reese knows all too well how any discourse surrounding hate or race can blow up. It has in the past, and until matters settle down, she knows it can blow up again. So far, she has managed to keep it cool and avoids questions that could re-ignite rivalry talks with the Fever star. Instead, she is focused on winning basketball games with her Chicago Sky.
