Angel Reese comes clean about partying in college
Angel Reese, the Chicago Sky rookie and former LSU basketball star, recently opened up about her college experience during an interview at ComplexCon. Speaking with Speedy Morman on 360 with Speedy, Reese reflected on her days as a student-athlete and how her lifestyle was heavily shaped by her role on the team.
When asked about partying in college, her response spoke to the discipline and scrutiny that comes with being a top athlete. Angel Reese admitted that, as a college athlete, she rarely partied and had to be hyper-aware of how she presented herself in public. The pressures of maintaining her reputation and adhering to team standards dictated much of her college life.
Especially under the reign of the Lady Tigers’ HC Kim Mulkey, Reese refrained from being seen as a social figure by making an appearance at parties around the campus. Mulkey, as colorful and controversial as she may be, has always been a stickler for discipline within her team.
Reese knows this better than anyone else, having served an unofficial four-game suspension from the LSU Tigers during her last collegiate season due to unrevealed reasons. While Reese avoided the typical college party scene, her post-college life spells a different story.
Since joining the WNBA, Reese has embraced her role as a cultural icon, attending high-profile events like the Met Gala and other star-studded gatherings. She has become an integral figure in the pop culture surrounding women’s basketball.
Reese speaks on fond memories at LSU
During the interview, Angel Reese also reflected on her time at LSU, crediting the school for shaping her into the person she is today. While answering questions about her journey, she expressed gratitude for the opportunities LSU gave her, both on and off the court.
Reese’s collegiate career was nothing short of remarkable. After beginning her journey at Maryland, where injuries hampered her freshman season, she transferred to LSU in her junior year. Her move proved transformative.
At LSU, Reese became a dominant force in women’s basketball, leading the Tigers to their first national championship by defeating Iowa in the 2023 NCAA title game. She finished her college career as one of the most celebrated players in the sport, carrying her team to consistent success, including an Elite Eight appearance in her senior year.
Reese also earned the prestigious honor of being named the greatest LSU athlete of all time by her mentor Shaquille O’Neal. Now in the WNBA, she has continued to build on the foundation laid during her time at LSU. The Chicago Sky selected her as the seventh overall pick in the 2024 draft, and she has quickly established herself as a promising young talent in the league.
