The WNBA Rookie of the Year award was heating up right until they went into a break for the Olympics. But when the season returns in two week’s time, the battle will resume between Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese. Indiana Fever guard Clark’s performances of late have made her case stronger. But the Chicago Sky forward still is churning out double double performances, suggesting the likes of Stephen A. Smith to chime in.

The longtime analyst has been a proponent of both the rookie stars ever since they stepped foot onto a WNBA floor. But while at First Take’s special live audience show at the National Association of Black Journalists convention in Chicago, Smith said:

I'm gonna make a statement. Angel Reese, she maybe Rookie of the Year, she's special. She can play, she's no scrub, she's a walking double double. Marketability matters. If you can have that girl on the team, make sure you do it.

With those words, he made essentially two statements. One was his support for Angel Reese in the Rookie of the Year race. The second was her marketability.

That last part was a nod to the fact that Team USA should have taken the time to decide on their team. He feels they should have taken her along with Caitlin Clark to Paris. After all, not only their marketability is out of this world and will lead to the growth of the WNBA, but also, her play is suggests they should have.

As the only consistent rookie this season has seen so far, Reese has been dominating the paint. Her rebounds and her scoring off of second chances have helped the Chicago Sky enter the playoff race. That’s why Stephen A. Smith feels she should be Rookie of the Year.

Angel Reese is back with Chicago Sky after London and Paris tour

When the WNBA went into the Olympics break, the rookies let out a sigh of relief. As most of them had been playing basketball for more than 10 months straight. While most of them went home or went on vacation somewhere in the country, Angel Reese decided to enjoy her rest abroad.

She first went to London, where she made her way to the O2 arena in London to watch Team USA’s women take on Germany in a friendly. Then she made her way to Paris for the Opening Ceremony of the Paris Olympics 2024. She was a part of Louis Vuitton’s Prelude to the Olympics. After all that, a small vacation at an unknown location, and airlines losing her baggage twice, she is finally back with her Chicago Sky.

Now she and her teammates have restarted practices and training. After all, they are primed to make the playoffs. It will be a fantastic boost to her Rookie of the Year credentials if they do so. So will her double-doubles.
