Chicago Sky signed former Las Vegas Aces coach Tyler Marsh to help build Angel Reese to be next A'ja Wilson
The Chicago Sky were the first WNBA team this season to fire their head coach. Teresa Weatherspoon was much loved by Angel Reese, thus her dismissal hit her hard. But now, the franchise has managed to pry away MVP A’ja Wilson and Las Vegas Aces’ top assistant, Tyler Marsh.
Marsh was the second Aces assistant to leave the franchise for a head coaching job. The first was coach Becky Hammon‘s first lieutenant Natalie Nakase, who left to become the head coach of the new expansion franchise, Golden State Valkyries.
For the Aces to lose both their top assistants did come as a surprise to many, especially their players. But the rebounding phenom was ecstatic, who took to her X account to just post the letter ‘W’ to suggest she and her team won. But as soon as she posted this, Aces player Sydney Colson replied with this message.
Excuse me?! We’re grieving, have some ‘(expletive denoted by emoticon)’ respect.

Like give us a day. Dang.

But Angel Reese decided to add in her two cents—watching two of the most experienced players in the league cry about it—or rather poke fun at their own situation.
Sorry but your time is UP. It’s our turn! I’ll send you some tissue tho sister girl unless you want to come join this side too.

All three were having fun, knowing this is just plain banter between them. But there might be some truth to it—Marsh joining the Chicago Sky could be a blessing for the likes of Reese as the Las Vegas Aces lost their best player developmental coach.
Angel Reese on path to be next A’ja Wilson?
Tyler Marsh’s impact on the two-time champion Aces was what brought him his first head coaching job. He was instrumental in helping develop the likes of Dearica Hamby, A’ja Wilson, Jackie Young and Kelsey Plum from good to great players. All of them are All-Stars and ended up winning medals at the Paris Olympics.
The Chicago Sky wanted someone who can develop their young core of Angel Reese, Kamilla Cardoso and Chennedy Carter. Add to that they would be drafting in the top four, suggesting they could get an instrumental piece for their foundation.
Usually head coaches do not partake in developing a player’s skills. But if Marsh at least gets to work with his new players early on, he could help Reese become an MVP like A’ja Wilson. It seems the Sky front office will be happier if he can develop another Wilson in Cardoso.
Teresa Weatherspoon was supposed to do that for them. But somewhere along the way, she could not, and the team stagnated. The Sky hope that Tyler Marsh can build this team and fight for championships down the line.
