Angel Reese ‘jokingly’ tries to recruit France Olympics star Gabby Williams back to WNBA
France star Gabby Williams' performances at Paris Olympics has Angel Reese trying to recruit her back to WNBA.
Angel Reese wants France star Gabby Williams back in WNBA
In the Paris Olympics, some stars showed why they are without a doubt the best in the world. Whereas there were some, who showed that they are missed in the American leagues. France’s Gabby Williams, whose heroics kept her nation squarely in the hunt for the gold medal against the mighty Team USA is one. Her performances have not only brought her fame among fans, but also the likes of WNBA rookie Angel Reese.
The Chicago Sky rookie took to her official X account to send out a tweet tagging the France star. Reese did not hesitate to ask.
Ok now that the game is over, would you like to be a part of the chicago sky again??? Gabby Williams. (thought it wouldn’t hurt to try lmaoo).Angel Reese asked Gabby Williams on X
“Biggest fan” Williams had quite the reply.
Orrrrrr we could just play together for a different organization...They did me dirty girl. but I am still you’re biggest fan.Gabby Williams replied
Angel Reese then sounded a bit dejected in her reply.
Them folks not here nomore but ok ok i get it. Thank you sistergirl! see you soon!Angel Reese replied
It seems Gaby Williams is still hurt by the way the Chicago Sky treated her a few years ago. Had that not happened, she would have possibly been a teammate of Reese.
Gaby Williams was the 4th overall pick for the Chicago Sky in 2018. She was supposed to be a star, but a coaching change in her second season moved her to the bench. That spurred her to want to prioritize playing for France ahead of the 2021 season.
But the coaches and front office decided to suspend her for the season. Even trading her away. It seems that hurt the 27-year-old, as the Sky went on to win a WNBA title with Candace Parker leading the way.
Angel Reese was joking about trying to recruit Gabby Williams
Maybe Angel Reese wanted to bring her back and have another go with the current Chicago Sky roster. Wanting to know more about it, reporter Julia Poe asked Reese about it after their practice session. Reese replied;
It was just fun. I've been a fan of Gabby since she was at UConn. She plays hard. I love Gabby and it was just a joke. Cause she did play here in Chicago. I'm excited to see where her career goes. Any WNBA team that gets her is lucky for sure.Angel Reese said
It seems Angel Reese was probably reminded by her colleagues about the league’s anti-tampering policy. even then she knows Gabby Williams might not be interested in returning to the WNBA.
She is now well and truly settled in France. From there, she plays in the European leagues, where pay is better than what it is in the WNBA. Therefore, something major has to entice her to come back to her country of birth.
Maybe the new Unrivaled League will bring the French star back to play in the United States. After all, the league’s founders Breanna Stewart and Napheesa Collier are former teammates on UConn’s NCAA Championship winning teams.
