Angel Reese and the Atlanta Dream are on a good run of form heading into the postseason. Before Friday’s game, they won seven of their last 10 games and were on a four-game winning streak.

The Dream were looking to extend their winning streak to five games. Unfortunately, their run came to an end after suffering a 101-83 demolition at the hands of Portland Fire at The Gateway Center Arena.

It was the Dream’s 14th loss of the campaign, dropping them to fifth in the standings with a 25-14 record. Meanwhile, the Fire sit at ninth place in the standings and are already eliminated from playoff contention.

However, one of the biggest moments in the game took place in the fourth quarter when Reese and Carla Leite became tangled during a box-out. The Dream center was handed a technical foul, which was her eighth of the season. Players who reach eight technical fouls during the regular season are suspended for one game and fined $1,500.

Angel Reese has been an important player for the Dream this season. It is her debut season for the Dream after she was traded from the Chicago Sky in the summer. She has taken time to adjust to her new environment and teammates but has improved with every passing week.

She has broken the single-game rebounding record in her previous game and is currently averaging 16.1 points, 12.4 rebounds, and 2.7 assists in 37 appearances. However, she has piled up quite a few technical fouls this season.

While the game was out of reach for the Dream, it was a huge call as it meant that their star player would be suspended for a crucial game. The Dream are scheduled to take on table-toppers, Minnesota Lynx, on Sunday.

WNBA rescinds Angel Reese’s 8th technical foul

To add to their poor performance, the technical foul by Angel Reese turned the game into a bigger disappointment for Dream fans. She appeared to make contact around Leite’s head and neck before giving her a small shove. But to everyone’s delight, the league rescinded the technical foul several hours after the game.

Reese tied Caitlin Clark for having the most technical fouls in the season at eight. However, she and her team received some good news after their loss. As a result, the Dream will have their star talent back for the important clash before they can enjoy their World Cup break.

Angel Reese recorded her 28th double-double of the season

The Fire came all guns blazing from tip-off. The Dream were playing catch-up throughout the game as they were down by 10 at the end of the first quarter and down by 14 at halftime.

While everyone struggled to make their shots on Friday, Angel Reese did tie the record for most double-doubles in a single season. She recorded her 28th double-double of the campaign as she ended her night with 16 points and 16 rebounds in 38 minutes.

She tied Phoenix Mercury forward Alyssa Thomas, who had 28 double-doubles in the 2023 season. With still five games to go in the regular season, Reese will have a good chance to break the record this year.

Many view the Dream as championship contenders this year. They will be looking to enter the World Cup break with some momentum, and beating the Lynx would be a huge confidence boost before the playoffs.
