Former NFL quarterback and No. 2 pick Robert Griffin III was fired from his cushy ESPN job a few months ago. The former Redskins player was deemed redundant like a few other experts who were on the daily ESPN carousel. Many suspected that it had something to do with how he went over the top with his treatment of Angel Reese. His recent actions have proved to only deepen this impression for onlookers.

Robert Griffin III has since doubled down on his own podcast show that goes by the name of Outta Pocket. He has built a following of over 250,000 subscribers on his YouTube channel in around two years. He doesn’t seem to be lacking interest either, with over 25 million views on his content garnered already. The former NFL player still has his fastball when it comes to analyzing NFL football and breaking it down.

However, he seems to be treading in dangerous waters with his WNBA content. In particular, the way that he has spoken about the rivalry and ‘beef’ between Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark has stuck out. He implied that Reese legitimately hates Clark – a notion that is shared by a lot of WNBA fans. But he crossed a line when in the guise of protecting Reese from racism online, he reposted an image of her as a monkey.

Shaquille O’Neal has mentored Angel Reese in her journey to becoming one of the most recognizable athletes in women’s sports, right from her junior year at LSU. He took offense to the hate that RGIII has, knowingly or unknowingly, added on to Reese, specifically after her being given an NBA 2K cover for its next release. Speaking on his Big Podcast, O’Neal minced no words and sent a warning to RGIII:

Speaking of man, RGIII, tweet another monkey post about my girl Angel Reese, I’m gonna punch you in your f***ing face. Okay? It’s enough. Like I don’t even usually do stuff like this, but just stop it, bro. You got your job, you got your podcast, leave my Angel Reese alone. I’m the one calling her and telling her not to respond. F***ing stop it. That’s the last time. Okay? Thank you.

Shaquille O’Neal points out how Robert Griffin III is flawed on Caitlin Clark vs Angel Reese

Shaquille O’Neal has some experience of dealing with hate. He dealt with a lot of heat from Lakers fans after winning a title in Miami with Dwyane Wade and taunting Kobe Bryant before the latter overtook him in rings. The four-time NBA champion understands first-hand how sporting rivalries work, and he had things to say about RGIII’s breakdown of the relationship between the two WNBA superstars:

Angel Reese Caitlin Clark Ratings

(The rivalry between Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark) it’s not real hate. If you look around what’s going on in this real country, that’s hate. This is sports. I’m not supposed to like you. It’s a shame that all the stuff you did in your life, you’re gonna be remembered for your podcast. That should tell you you’re not that f***ing great. I don’t want to be remembered for Shaq’s Big Podcast. I do not. Like, leave those girls alone. You already spoke on it. Let it go. So what if she hates her? So f***ing what? I hate you now.

The message from O’Neal is loud and clear for Robert Griffin III. But it likely will be turned into an opportunity by the former ESPN analyst to drum up more clicks and interest to his platform, now that O’Neal has threatened physical violence.
