The Chicago Sky selected Angel Reese and Kamilla Cardoso in the 2024 Draft to build a new core for their future.

Angel Reese and her Chicago Sky have endured a torrid start to their 2025 campaign, losing 10 of their first 13 games of the season. She and Kamilla Cardoso were supposed to be the twin towers that form the core of its offense and defense.
So far, that recipe has not yielded as both Cardoso and Reese struggled to consistently produce inside the paint. Head coach Tyler Marsh has tried to fix the problem by asking the latter to take on a point forward role.
That role helped Reese notch her 1st-ever WNBA triple-double. However, that formula did not work to its best in their last 3 games. Earlier, they faced the Los Angeles Sparks at home. The away team’s performance in the 1st half pointed towards another loss for the Sky.
Then, coming out in the 2nd half, they started to gather steam. Part of their change in strategy was to alternate Angel Reese and Kamilla Cardoso inside the paint. That way, both could use their size to overpower the smaller and lighter Sparks.
That plan worked wonders as Reese finished with another impressive all round performance. But it was her fellow draftee who had a career night. The Brazilian finished with 27 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 blocks. Soon after the game, her fellow Skyscraper posted this on X:
BIG MILL NOT THE LITTLE.

This was Angel Reese shouting out her former SEC rival, who is now her frontcourt partner in crime. She knows that without Cardoso’s points, the Chicago Sky would not have come back and won against a motivated Sparks team.
Angel Reese emerging as point forward
Last season, when Angel Reese dominated the interior, many pointed out that it hindered Kamilla Cardoso’s development and overall impact. The Brazilian is a good shot blocker, but could not get her hands on any as her teammate was occupying space inside to grab rebounds.

Tyler Marsh assigning the former LSU star to a point forward role seems to be helping both women develop as basketball players. There are no longer any hindrances to each one’s progression, especially if they perform the way they did yesterday.
While Cardoso dominated inside, Reese operated mostly outside and came up with another stellar all round game. She finished with 18 points, 17 rebounds, 6 assists, and 4 steals. Even if one were to take out the 6 points off free throws, that still nets her a double-double.
More importantly, the Maryland native has been shooting at an impressive 57% clip. That is a major improvement from the low 30% she was shooting for much of the initial batch of games. If Angel Reese can keep this momentum going, the Sky could start winning a lot of games.
Angel Reese surpasses Candace Parker in double-doubles record
With that double-double, Reese has notched 34 so far. That makes it the second most double-doubles for any player in their first two seasons in the WNBA. That is quite an achievement for a player whom many doubted could make a meaningful impact in the league.
Surpassing Candace Parker, one of the greatest to ever play the game, is no easy feat. Now she is 11 behind WNBA great Tina Charles. But she has 30 games to complete her sophomore season. At the rate she is recording them this season, Reese might surpass Charles, too.
There's a whole lot of double-doubles in this picture 💪

The 23-year-old already has quite a few records to show in her short WNBA career. If she can continue at this pace, along with her improved overall game, the Sky star can possibly get another call to be a part of the All-Star game.
