Angel Reese SHUTS DOWN Shaquille O’Neal’s ‘solution’ to make WNBA great

Shaquille O'Neal and WNBA and Chicago Sky rookie Angel Reese

Shaquille O’Neal is never one to hold back with his words. The NBA legend appeared on the latest episode of the Unapologetically Angel podcast with Angel Reese. On the show, he dished out some advice on how to boost the WNBA’s popularity. However, the Chicago Sky star immediately shut down her mentor’s ‘solution.’

Shaq had a very simple outlook on his solution to make the WNBA a more entertaining league. Dunks remain more pleasing for the fanbase. WNBA is not known for the dunks. This isn’t a new sentiment for O’Neal, as he has often proposed solutions to make the women’s dunk easier. He said the same during his podcast appearance with Reese.

In womens beach volleyball, lets just say the net is 10’, for womens, lower just a little bit.
I’m not saying lower it to 9’5″, but just 9’9… Ya’ll got shooters, s***talkers, brawls… only thing that’s missing is the dunk.

As Shaquille O’Neal went on to defend his solution, he was quickly shut down by a disgruntled Reese. The Chicago Sky rookie immediately responded to Shaq’s comments by saying that she hates it when men suggest lowering the ring.

The Big Diesel suggested that more players dunking in the WNBA would increase the marketability of a game that already parallels the NBA in terms of its playstyle, shooting, and trash-talking. The only missing factor in Shaq’s eyes is the above-the-rim play.

However, Angel Reese rightfully suggested that changing the height of the rim would not make a palpable difference in how most audiences perceive the game. Many have made the lower rim argument, but changing the height of the rim opens a can of worms for the rest of the players. Moreover, there isn’t widespread interest from WNBA players about a lower rim.

Shaquille O’Neal reveals his favorite WNBA player between Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese

Shaquille O’Neal has been outspoken in his support of Angel Reese. The NBA legend had already explained his take on terming Reese the greatest player to don an LSU jersey. However, Shaq has grown to become a fan of Reese’s rival, Caitlin Clark, as well.

The four-time champion praised the Fever rookie for revolutionizing the game with her deep shooting. O’Neal and Reese have a long history. So, who is Shaq’s pick for the best player? Here’s what The Diesel had to say about his first impressions of Reese and his favorite player.

“I thought you were beautiful of course. I thought you play with a passion. I figured you were gonna do it your way and you talk a lot of shi*t and back it up. So you are my type of player.

The two have been in cohorts since Reese’s NCAA National Championship run with LSU in 2023. Shaq, the director of basketball operations at Reebok, had signed Reese to a multi-year NIL deal with the brand. The latest episode of the podcast between Shaq and Reese came just hours after news broke of Reebok and Reese announcing a multi-year contract extension and an upcoming signature shoe set to debut in 2026.
