Angel Reese’s favorite teammate gets the boot after controversy surrounding Caitlin Clark ‘bump’
Chicago Sky's Chennedy Carter shot into the public eye after she bumped Caitlin Clark to the floor during a WNBA game.
Chennedy Carter bumping Caitlin Clark drew a lot of negative attention to the Chicago Sky
WNBA free agency has officially started, and teams have already made their first moves in trying to keep hold of important players on restricted contracts. With certain decisions going as expected, some raised eyebrows, especially one that involves Angel Reese‘s teammate Chennedy Carter.
The Sky were supposed to send out qualifying offers to a few of their players. They did to the likes of Dana Evans, who after last season ended, seemed to want to leave. That means she will likely stay with the team unless she unexpectedly gets an offer they do not want to match.
The focus of WNBA and Sky fans was on Chennedy Carter‘s future. The star guard was their best scorer and has been tearing it up in China in the offseason. However, Sky’s GM Jeff Pagliocca spoke with the Chicago Sun Times and shared this with Annie Costabile.
Carter’s nature was already suspect as she did not last long with her previous two teams. The article added that as per their sources, multiple players were unhappy with Chennedy Carter’s behavior. The Sky let go of Teresa Weatherspoon after one season on the job as she did not check the guard’s behavior.
Chennedy Carter’s hit on Caitlin Clark brought negativity to the Sky
One of those behaviors that brought a major negative narrative surrounding the league was after Chennedy Carter ‘bumped’ Caitlin Clark to the floor. It drew a lot of flak as fans saw Angel Reese applauding her friend and teammate for delivering the hit.
On top of that, her coaches did nothing to reprimand the behavior and that continued to affect the team. The article also added that new head coach Tyler Marsh gave his inputs on who he wants to work with. Therefore, it is likely that he might not have been interested in the fallout of another potential outburst from the guard.
Caitlin Clark is the de facto face of the WNBA right now. That unwanted hit may have felt good for Carter at the moment. But the Chicago Sky did not appreciate what it brought to the team. It left the likes of Evans and Isabelle Harrison in tears during their exit interview.
