Angel Reese first made her mark when she won the 2023 NCAA Championship with her LSU Tigers against Caitlin Clark and the Iowa Hawkeyes. Now, they both are battling in the WNBA and are looking to make a playoff run with their respective teams.

Both superstars returned to their alma maters this WNBA preseason to play games against the Brazilian National Team. When Reese returned, she had former LSU teammate and this year’s Sky draftee Hailey Van Lith alongside her.

Angel Reese still keeps in touch with some of her teammates and was cheering for them during this past NCAA March Madness. However, she is not on good terms with one former Tiger teammate in Flau’jae Johnson.

When they won the national championship, it seemed as if Reese and Johnson were inseparable. But now, they do not talk to each other and openly admit that they are not friends. But Johnson is surprisingly friends with Reese’s rival, Caitlin Clark.

Flau’jae Johnson has often talked about her appreciation for Clark and how she is as a player. The LSU guard has also worked out with the Indiana Fever superstar during this past offseason, and complimented how she and Paige Bueckers helped her improve her game.

Now she has taken their friendship to the next level after the rapper cum hooper put Clark’s name in her latest rap song. Johnson is scaling the charts with her rap career after stellar hits and collaborations with top hip hop superstars.

When Flau’jae Johnson released this video, it started to go viral. But she made sure that Caitlin Clark knew about it and tagged her in her Instagram release. After seeing this, Indiana Fever superstar had to react and reposted with this fire emoticons and the phrase:

Elite.

This might have sent the song off the charts, considering how fanatic Clark’s supporters are. Their friendship has now evolved to the extent that they regularly support each other on social media. The Fever star is not known to be much into hip hop, but for Johnson, she might make an exception.

This goes on to show that friendships are different than just being teammates. That also explains why Johnson sat with Paige Bueckers at the 2024 All-Star game and chatted and joked with Caitlin Clark, but never once spoke with Reese, who was also a part of that game.

Flau’jae Johnson should resume her battles with Caitlin Clark next season

Flau’jae Johnson will turn 22 this calendar year. That made her eligible to declare for the WNBA draft this year. Many felt she could leave LSU and declare for the draft, considering other top prospects chose to continue playing in college.

When the transfer portal was open, Johnson revealed that she had a major announcement on the way. Fans believed either that she was transferring to another program or that she was declaring for the WNBA draft. But it turned out to be a promotion for her rap tour.

But she is entering her senior year at LSU, which means she will declare for the draft next season. ESPN has rated her the 5th best prospect next year, but going by how much she is working on her game, that ranking could change.

Considering how the Indiana Fever are looking to compete this season, there is a slim chance they can draft Johnson. That means Flau’jae Johnson will be able to resume her battles with Clark next season onwards.
