Ex-New York Mets catcher Travis d’Arnaud joined the Los Angeles Angels for the next two years after finalizing a $12 million deal. The move came as a shock and surprise to many as social media went abuzz with commenting on the incident.

While some were sad to let of d’Arnaud, the Angels were happy with their addition, welcoming the catcher to the locker room. The signing was completed on Tuesday, and the player will soon head to West.

In 2024, Travis d’Arnaud recorded 15 homeruns in 341 plate appearances by slashing .238/.302/.436 score. With the Angels, he’ll be working with Logan O’Hoppe, who serves as backup for the team.

Following recent performances, O’Hoppe has established himself as one of the best young catches in baseball this season. Overall, Angels general manager Perry Minasian seemed pretty excited to have Travis d’Arnaud on the team for the 2025 run.

Travis just really stuck out for us — someone that can not only play at a high level, but the makeup is off the charts. He’s a winner. He’s played on a ton of winning teams. He knows what winning teams do.

The GM further added that d’Arnaud positively influences the locker room environment and it’ll be good for the team right now. Furthermore, his communication skills and relationship with everyone will make it easier to work together.

Social media comments on Angels acquiring Travis d’Arnaud

While LA Angels GM Perry Minasian hailed the player as an “awesome guy”, Angels fans were equally giddy with the signing. Minasian further claimed that it’ll be a win-win situation as d’Arnaud “lives 25 minutes away and really wanted to be here.”

Social media both celebrated and were sad at the news of Travis d’Arnaud joining the Angels this season. Many commented how this is a “World Series move” while others noted, “The Angels got their guy.”

As per reports, the team is also trying to get catching coach Sal Fasano to their team. If he joins, he will be acting as an assistant coach for the Los Angeles Angels. The team is currently busy re-signing, adding, and letting players walk in the free agency.

With the 2024 curtain fall, all MLB teams are looking forward to rebuilding and challenging the World Series Cup once again. The current victors of the World Series are none other than the Los Angeles Dodgers.
