Mitchell Starc became the most expensive player in IPL history by bagging a price of INR 24.75 crore, the amount that bagged the fanfare for all the right and the debatable reasons as well. Despite a sloppy start to the tournament, when it mattered the most, Starc rose to prominence, ushering KKR to their third IPL title.

As the IPL final turned out to be one sided with KKR blowing away SRH, the broadcasters had to wait a bit longer to hand over the award. They dragged the media presentation to 12 AM (IST) which left quite a few players slightly unsettled. In an off-beat chat with Angkrish Raghuvanshi, Starc revealed that the youngster who featured for KKR in this year’s tournament was kind of bamboozled with the amount.

So your game finishes at 10 PM, the final presentation hasn’t started by midnight. It’s the weather, basically killed the vibe already. Just sitting down and young Angkrish Raghuvanshi, that’s when the winner’s cheque came around, the team got INR 20 crore for winning the final. He goes ‘Huh, it’s not even what you got paid.'

Mitchell Starc drew severe flak at the start of the tournament for being too expensive and going wicket-less. KKR’s mentor, Gautam Gambhir kept on believing in the Aussie ace and eventually after a handful of pedestrian outings, Starc found his form back. Not only did the Aussie pace spearhead reined in on his economy rate but he managed to get hold of crucial scalps in the tail-end of the tournament, paving a smooth path for KKR’s third title.

After being put to bowl in the finale, Starc’s early double whammy accompanied by the big breakthrough provided by Vaibhav Arora saw KKR shoehorn the rampant SRH batting unit into an extremely untoward corner. Despite a handful of cameos from the middle-order, KKR’s formidable bowling unit left SRH scratching their heads as they were bowled out for 113.

KKR did come an early cropper in the form of Sunil Narine who was removed for just six but a blitzkrieg from Venkatesh Iyer left Sunrisers reeling in despair as the Knights secured the crown with 57 balls and eight wickets to spare.
