Jerry Jones has alienated the entire Cowboys fanbase due to his poor handling of Micah Parsons‘ contract talks. A day after the Hall of Fame game in Canton, Parsons decided he’d seen enough and announced on social media that he had requested a trade from the Cowboys.
According to the statement, Parsons reached out to Jones and the Cowboys brass for an extension as early as 2023. He tried again the following year, but the results were the same.
Jones refused to acknowledge Parsons’ agent and insisted on dealing with the 26-year-old, which he did not appreciate. It resulted in a holdout from Parsons. He missed the first two phases of offseason training.
In the meantime, Myles Garrett and Maxx Crosby signed new deals with their respective teams. Parsons warned of a hike in his asking price if there was any delay.
Jones remained unmoved. TJ Watt became the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history by signing a $41 million extension. Naturally, Parsons’ value increased.
Jerry Jones and Micah Parsons’ feud escalated at training camp
Parsons attended Cowboys training camp to show that he’s still committed to the Cowboys’ cause. However, Jones’ irresponsible remarks about Parsons’ credibility caused a social media meltdown.

Former players were dumbfounded to witness an owner taking direct jabs at his best player.
Anytime you can publicly take a dig at your star quarterback and your star pass rusher simultaneously, right before the season begins, you just gotta take it… Nothing makes guys want to fight for you more than hearing how upset you are that they got hurt while fighting for you.

Parsons is the newest addition to the long list of players who had to wait for an extension. Before him, Dak Prescott, CeeDee Lamb, Ezekiel Elliott, and Amari Cooper experienced the same situation.
Jones may have caved previously, but the situation with Parsons is very different. Neither side wants to back down, and the defensive end eventually ended up asking for a trade.

Jerry Jones has a plantation owner mindset.

He reminds me of Donald Sterling.
Dallas only negotiating with Parsons and not his agent is scummy business. They thought Parsons was dumb enough to not include his agent in the process. https://t.co/ZU2mM7nf09

Doesn’t Micah Parsons know that Jerry Jones won a Super Bowl 30 years ago and knows what he’s doing

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that Jones has no intention of trading Micah Parsons. Moreover, Jones has never traded any player a year after they were honored with Pro Bowl or All-Pro status.
Jerry he is a short term thinker & planner when it comes to running his football team. There is no history of anybody trading away a top tier pro bowl player & getting better in the short term. That’s what your research also shows. There is a minuscule to 0 chance of a trade here https://t.co/oAzsWBsC2t

That will not stop NFL teams from offering the Cowboys trade deals. The 33rd Team suggested that Jones could take the same route as the Bears when they traded for a 27-year-old All-Pro Khalil Mack from the Las Vegas Raiders.
The Bears sent a 2019 first-round pick (the Raiders drafted Josh Jacobs), a 2020 first-round pick (CB Damon Arnette), a 2020 sixth-round pick, which was traded to another team, and a 2020 third-round pick (drafted WR Bryan Edwards).
In return, the Bears received Mack, a 2020 second-round pick (drafted TE Cole Kmet), and a 2020 seventh-round pick (OT Arlington Hambright).

Everything depends on Jones. Parsons could still get an extension because, before him, Garrett also requested a trade from the Browns. Eventually, the Browns gave him what he wanted: a four-year contract.
