The Dallas Mavericks sent Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers sending shockwaves throughout the sporting world. In return, they brought in Anthony Davis with a view of winning the NBA title now. However, their move has come with a lot of skepticism.

Some analysts believe the Mavericks gave up on a generational player in the Slovenian. Their win now logic could become true as Davis and Kyrie Irving along with the rest of the squad could bring a different facet to the game that could make them formidable.

But Doncic is only 25 and has at least a decade of prime basketball remaining in him. Mavericks fans felt the same as they had Doncic running their town for the foreseeable future. To know that GM Nico Harrison sent him away for a soon to be 32-year-old did not make sense.

As soon as the morning sun came out, some fans decided to express their feelings. They went to American Airlines Center and put up sign boards which were inscribed with their opinions on the steps leading up to Mavericks legend Dirk Nowitzki‘s statue. One of those messages read.

Burn in Hell!

Along with that, they brought a coffin with a Dallas Mavericks logo pasted on it. They adorned the surrounding area with Luka Doncic‘s Mavericks No. 77 jerseys, suggesting trading their favorite superstar was the franchise’s death knell. They were chanting together for the owners to ‘sell the team’. All of this was captured on camera by Dallas media houses.

Mavericks try to remove profanity laced messages to GM Nico Harrison after Luka Doncic trade

Once it went onto national television, the Dallas Mavericks had to respond. They could not do anything against their own fans, but they tried to clean up the mess around the Dirk Nowitzki statue. Their facility management team arrived at the location with a pressure washer.

They tried removing a profanity laced message written on the area surrounding the statue. That message was directed at GM Nico Harrison, who has come under a lot of scrutiny for seemingly letting a generational superstar go.

He has tried to give logic to how he sees the franchise in the next few years. It was even rumored that Harrison and the franchise’s top brass were not happy with the 25-year-old’s conditioning. However, those fans surrounding the American Airlines Center believe this trade sets them back.

It’s not as if Anthony Davis does not have injury issues of his own. But they apparently view him as a far less risk with his contract. The Mavericks could pay him less than half of what they would owe Luka Doncic while also being able to extract elite play from both ends of the floor. These fans might change their view if Davis leads them to a title.
