Last week, the Detroit Lions lost a playoff game and both their coordinators, however, the team’s fanbase was not put through the same amount of grief as the Dallas Cowboys put theirs. The team shocked the football world by promoting offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer to the Head Coaching position.
Their decision did not sit well with their fanbase and Jerry Jones wound up receiving more criticism than praise for this move. The move had Cowboys legend Michael Irvin fired up because the team he spent his entire career with is now struggling to make the playoffs. The Hall of Famer was frustrated with Jones’ decision because he believes Dallas missed out on a valuable opportunity.
Michael Irvin was hoping to see his former teammate Deion Sanders take over the HC gig in Dallas.
The key word he uses to describe Jerry Jones is ‘shrewd businessman,’ and not shrewd scout. Jones has not succeeded in bringing stability and success to America’s team in a long time and things seem to be getting worse in Dallas.
Deion Sanders remains committed to the University of Colorado for now
After Mike McCarthy’s departure, there have been plenty of rumors signaling Deion Sanders’ interest in coaching the Cowboys. The owner of the most valuable sports franchise reached out to Coach Prime, however, his offer was turned down because Sanders’ iterated his committment to stay in Colorado and continue to improve the football program.
Michael Irvin would have liked for Jerry Jones to push harder. One thing is certain, when Jones really wants something, he is going to get his way, which is why it is surprising to see him settle for an inexperienced candidate at the Head Coach position. Irvin cited the example of the Philadelphia Eagles and Washington Commanders, the divisional rivals of Dallas.
There is no arguing that in terms of marketability, they lead the NFL but their fanbase has reached a saturation point. They want results and they’re tired of waiting any longer. Brian Schottenheimer finds himself in a rough spot because he finds himself under pressure from the fans and the organization to deliver on his first attempt in a HC role.
