Playing in the difficult, humid weather of D.C., Kalinskaya broke Tauson’s serve early in the first set of the match and never looked back, taking it 6-3. In the second set, the Dane rallied to level the score at 5-5, but Kalinskaya regained control, breaking Tauson in the decisive twelfth game to seal the victory with a scoreline of 6-3, 7-5.
World No.48, Kalinskaya now has a 13-13 win-loss record in 2025. Before ousting World No. 19 Tauson, she overcame World No.66 Kamilla Rakhimova 6-2, 6-3 and World No.28 Magda Linette 6-4, 6-0 in her previous rounds at the tournament.
Anna Kalinskaya sets up a semifinal showdown with Emma Raducanu
Anna Kalinskaya will meet World No. 46 Emma Raducanu in the Washington Open semifinals. This marks Raducanu’s fourth career semifinal and if she wins it, she’ll reach the second WTA final of her career following her staggering 2021 US Open title run. Raducanu and Kalinskaya will be meeting for the first time on court.
The 22-year-old had defeated Marta Kostyuk, Naomi Osaka and Maria Sakkari in straight sets in her previous rounds at the tournament. She had also paired with Elena Rybakina for the first time for doubles and the pair had made it to the semifinals in Washington. However, after just five games and trailing 1-4 to Zhang Shuai and Taylor Townsend, the British-Kazakh pair retired from the match.

Both Rybakina and Raducanu had played their singles quarterfinal matches a few hours before the doubles semifinal, where Raducanu struggled with the intense heat and even had to have her blood pressure checked during the medical timeout.
She also looked quite unwell during the doubles match. The temperature at D.C. soared to 95°F (35°C), making the conditions very difficult for the players. Speaking about the heat, Raducanu commented at the press conference:
I think the humidity here, as well, it just makes it feel completely like you have just opened an oven and it just stayed open and your head is in there. That’s how it feels. Wimbledon, it gets hot in England, but it’s a drier heat, not quite the same sweating.
Rybakina, who has also made it to the singles semifinal after defeating Magdalena Frech, will face Leylah Fernandez in this round. It marks the Canadian’s first semifinal of the season and she has a 1-1 head-to-head record over Rybakina.
Fernandez has had a good run so far, overcoming many higher ranked players such as top seed Jessica Pegula on her way to the semifinal. With the withdrawal of tops seeds Pegula and Emma Navarro, Rybakina is the highest seeded player remaining in the Washington draw.
