Last week, Aaron Judge suffered another major setback in his career as Team USA lost the World Baseball Classic (WBC) final against Venezuela. Since this loss, some New York Yankees fans booed their captain. An MLB announcer would later blast them for this.
Judge was the named the captain of Team USA last year. The slugger had missed the 2023 edition after signing a massive 9-year, $360 million deal with the Yankees.
In his first appearance in the WBC, the 33-year-old would lead his country to the final once again. During his absence in the previous edition, the USA lost the final 3-2 against Japan, as then-U.S. captain Mike Trout went down swinging against Shohei Ohtani.
In the final against Venezuela at the loanDepot Park in Miami, the United States was dominated. The team would have just 3 hits in the entire game (two were from Bryce Harper) and ended up losing 3-2 once again.

Many fans on social media would heavily criticize him for his performances. Following the loss, he would return to the Yankees Spring Training camp and join the team.
In their game against the Baltimore Orioles, he would go 0-for-3. While his team did end up winning 3-0, some fans expressed their displeasure with his performances and booed him.
During a recent episode of The Michael Kay Show, ESPN’s Michael Kay blasted the fans. The booing of Judge by them did not sit well with him. While speaking about this incident, he shared Hall of Famer Reggie Jackson‘s reaction to it.
Jackson’s a big fan of Judge… And he said, listen, everybody got booed. I got booed. Jeter got booed, Mickey Mantle got booed … But Reggie said, ‘I have never, ever heard of anybody getting booed in spring training
Michael Kay said
The play-by-play announcer of the Yankees then slammed the fans for this. He would call them out and asked what they were trying to accomplish by this.
What’s the purpose of booing a guy in spring training? What are you trying to accomplish? Trying to run him out of town? Of all the people in baseball, you’re going to boo Aaron Judge? Are you out of your minds?
Michael Kay added regarding Aaron Judge
ICYMI: @RealMichaelKay cannot believe that Aaron Judge got booed at a New York Yankees’ Spring Training game.

This is not the first time Kay has defended Judge from criticism by the Yankees fans. Before the WBC, the 65-year-old claimed that the 7-time MLB All-Star was underappreciated in New York.
Aaron Judge unfazed by boos from fans during Spring Training Game
The WBC loss was a tough one to take for Aaron Judge and Team USA. As he came off this heartbreaking defeat, he faced severe heat from fans as many slammed him. The Yankees captain however, is unfazed by the boos he received during the recent Spring Training game.

While speaking with New York Post‘s Jon Heyman, Judge expressed that he was looking at the bigger picture and was not bothered by the boos.
I see the bigger picture. I’ve got a job to do. I’ve got things to do, so I’m not going to be bothered by criticisms. If I was, I’m never going to accomplish what I want to do.
Aaron Judge said
The 2026 season will be Judge’s 11th season in the MLB with the Yankees. Despite his individual brilliance, the team has been unable to win the World Series again.
The Yankees are on a 16-year drought for the World Series title. This is the second-longest drought in their successful franchise history.
The 3-time American League MVP would be hoping this is the season where the Commissioner’s Trophy returns to the Bronx. They will kick start the new campaign by taking on the San Francisco Giants at Oracle Park on Wednesday March 25.
