‘King of Clay’, Rafael Nadal adds one more achievement to his name in his glorious career of 20 Grand Slams and counting. A week after recording his 1,000th ATP win at the Paris Masters this year, Rafa went on to break a long-standing record set by Jimmy Connors.
The World No.2 from Mallorca surpassed Connors by spending 790 consecutive weeks ranked in the Top 10 in the world.
Nadal now holds the record for most no. of year-end finishes in the TOP 2
Now, Nadal holds the badge of having the most number of ‘Top 2’ finishes which is an astounding 12 times. Three more than Novak Djokovic and one more than Roger Federer.
However small, this feat cannot be neglected as it proves to be a very important statistic indeed in terms of comparison amongst the top tier players. With all the injuries that forced Rafa to pull-out or left him incompetent, this is simply outstanding.
When one considers the number of years which limited Nadal’s participation in tennis or simply from giving his all due to physical as well as psychological factors, it really puts things in perspective as to how huge this is considering how tough it is to maintain mental and physical fitness levels in this sport.
