The Philadelphia 76ers had one of their worst NBA seasons this past 2024-25 NBA campaign. Hampered by injuries to their star players, the Sixers were left in a dire state throughout the season, suffering loss after loss. Tyrese Maxxey, Joel Embiid, and Paul George did not live up to expectations in their debut season as a trio.

The 76ers were rumored to have discussed trading Paul George to the Utah Jazz on Wednesday, but the negotiations ultimately fell through. NBA Insider Marc Stein asserted that he knew the 76ers’ next plans after this story. Despite Philadelphia’s 42-year championship drought, Stein asserted that the 76ers will now give their three of, George, Joel Embiid, and Tyrese Maxey another chance to try to win a championship.

By simply staying at No. 3, Philadelphia would introduce an $11.1 million salary onto its books for 2025-26. So the Sixers expect to operate near (or maybe even above) the second apron for this upcoming campaign, sources say, as they prepare to give Joel Embiid, Paul George and Tyrese Maxeyanother shot to try to contend for a championship after they managed to appear in just 15 games (7-8) together this season.

The 76ers finished in 13th place in the Eastern Conference and lucked into the third overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft. After turning down a player selection with the Clippers, Paul George agreed to a four-year, $212 million deal with the 76ers last season.

In 41 games with the 76ers, he has only averaged 16.2 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 4.3 assists—far less than his career statistics. Having served fourteen years in the NBA before signing with the 76ers, the former All-Star was supposed to be the catalyst for the 76ers this season.

In ten of his fourteen NBA seasons, he averaged more than 20 points per game. Joel Embiid’s injury problem, which limited him to playing in only 19 matches last season, was the 76ers’ biggest worry. Tyrese Maxey’s transformation into an All-Star player and his selection for his first All-Star game this season, however, was the only bright spot from the previous campaign.

In 52 games this season, he produced 26.3 points, 6.1 assists, and 3.3 rebounds. The 3 will well and truly need to step up since they have been given one more chance by the 76ers’ front office for the 2025-26 NBA season.

Fans left annoyed with the 76ers recent decision regarding Tyrese Maxxey, Joel Embiid and Paul George

The 76ers have been poor all season, resulting in pure frustration and anger from the fanbase. Not only that, many rival fan bases also trolled the 76ers for their 2024-25 NBA campaign. And they did not stop there. As Marc Stein reported that the Sixers are giving their ‘Big 3’ another shot for the upcoming season, fans were enraged.

Many fans took to various social media apps and sites to put forward their views and anger towards the 76ers recent decision. Some even trollled them. For example, one fan wrote on X inshallah another wasted season for the team I hate the most across all sports. Check out some of the fan reactions below:

All said and done, the Sixers have all but important offseason ahead of them to make things right. The likes of Embiid, George and Maxey have to take own-us for their side if they are to battle it out for a playoff berth in the upcoming season, remaining fit also being another major factor for the 3 stars.

Charles Barkley revealed an interesting case about Joel Embiid

Charles Barkley revealed during a segment on The Mike Missanelli Show that he went to a training session with Billy Cunningham of the Philadelphia 76ers around five years ago. Cunningham had a negative experience with Joel Embiid, 76ers center, during team exercises. Barkley cited the story to illustrate how Embiid’s injury problems could be exacerbated by his lack of conditioning.

This is the first day of training camp. Joel goes and sits down. The other guys scrimmage for an hour and a half. Billy says, ‘We gotta go.’ I said, ‘Why, Billy?’ He says, ‘The best player? When they sit down instead of scrimmaging, this team is never going to be successful,’ Billy was pissed.”

Despite this, Embiid has proven himself over time. From 2017 to 2024, the 76ers qualified for the playoffs every year. During that stretch, the seven-time All-Star averaged more than 20 points and 10 rebounds while recording more than 50 games per season. He needs to turn back the clock once again to bring success back to the 76ers alongside his teammates going into the next season.
