Now that Nico Harrison is gone, the focus shifts back to Anthony Davis, Cooper Flagg, and the rest of the Dallas Mavericks. How they respond now will determine if their former GM was right about their potential.
Harrison was dismissed for two reasons. One was that he could not bring in a proper playmaking guard to stand in for Kyrie Irving until he returned. The lack of play execution has resulted in the Mavericks stumbling to a 3-9 record.
Then there was the negativity part. The constant ‘Fire Nico’ chants were distracting, and they affected morale. Now that he is gone, something else emerged about how Nico Harrison ran the ship.
Multiple league sources said Davis has tried to convince the Mavs to let him return to the court, and Harrison urged him to return. But the team’s medical staff forbade it, citing the potential for a torn Achilles if Davis returned too soon.

This means the former GM was pushing their star center to return, as he was hoping that would stop the losing and buy him more time. Just that the Mavericks’ medical staff did not allow it to happen, knowing what the repercussions would be.

After Tyrese Haliburton tore his Achilles tendon a few games after facing tightness in his calf muscles, no one wants to take the risk. Had Anthony Davis torn his Achilles after Harrison convinced him to come back earlier than desired, it would be catastrophic.
Mavericks’ owner will decide when Anthony Davis goes back onto the court
If the reporters came to know about this, it is quite evident that the Dallas Mavericks organization knew about it all too well. No wonder their owner, Patrick Dumont, has now stepped in.
Mavericks governor Patrick Dumont has requested medical data indicating that Anthony Davis is not at risk of aggravating his left calf strain before giving a green light for the 10-time All-Star big man to return. Will miss seventh straight game tonight.

This means Dumont will ensure his star center is not placed in harm’s way. After all, if the team has to have a semblance of a playoff team, they need Anthony Davis healthy.

His production, defense, and championship experience are crucial if they are to turn their season around. It seems Nico Harrison was forcing the 10-time All-Star to return just to try and keep his job.
Anthony Davis could be on the trade block
Other than Anthony Davis‘ health, there is no denying the fact that he did not want to move to Dallas. The trade left him blindsided, which may have impacted his performance.

As per long-time NBA insider Marc Stein, the Dallas Mavericks are working with the 32-year-old’s camp to explore trade options. It is not a given that he could skip towns, but they are looking at possibilities.
If he performs well and the Mavs start winning consistently, he could be convinced to stay. Otherwise, his name will be a hot topic among the media, as potential suitors might want to add his two-way capabilities.
