Anthony Davis’ injury report has NBA Insider fearing $32 billion owners’ capacity to withstand meltdown

Windy gives the scoop on AD's health status.

Anthony Davis‘s debut with the Dallas Mavericks didn’t go as planned for the big man. AD was forced to pull out of the game before it concluded due to a strained left adductor. This is a knee to the groin of the Mavs owners, who made a ballsy and unprecedented trade move this season to acquire AD by swapping him with the Lakers for the sensational Luka Doncic.

With the growing tension and scrutiny of the trade deal by Dallas fans, a senior NBA insider gave the latest update on the 6’10” center’s tussle with injury. ESPN’s Brian Windhorst made an appearance on Get Up to report the injury update and the grim ditch the Mavericks have dug themselves into this season after their NBA Finals trip last season.

The Mavericks are experiencing an insane stretch of injuries with their big men. Dereck Lively is out with a broken bone in his ankle. Daniel Gafford, he’s a starter quality center, he hurt his knee last night. Dwight Powell… he’s been out for a month with a hip injury…. they are decimated at the center position and if they experience a long time without Anthony Davis, I’m not sure they can withstand it.

What Windy was alluding to here is that, with AD ruled out for multiple weeks, if not months, the post-Luka-era Mavericks’ playoff berth is on thin ice. This has effectuated Dallas fans to call for the firing of GM Nico Harrison who is attributed for brining AD over, accusing him of contaminating the whole roster. As of now, their center rotation is all out of big men who can step up as Davis recovers from the injury.

Although AD’s debut with his new team was cut-short due to sustaining the injury in second half of the game, the former champ wasn’t short of spectacular in the first two quarters against the Huston Rockets. AD drained both of his three-point shots and dropped 26 points in 31 minutes of court time. On top of that, the 6’10” center flaunted his stature, grabbing a mind boggling 16 rebounds while rejecting 3 shots.

What is the return timeline for Anthony Davis?

The year 2025 may not be Anthony Davis‘s year, considering how he’s been plagued with injuries as of late. Prior to getting traded to the Mavericks, AD sustained an abdominal muscle strain against the 76ers on January 28. Fast forward to February 8—AD made his debut in Dallas and sustained another, even more unfortunate, non-contact injury, which was later diagnosed as a left adductor strain.

NBA insider Shams Charania reported the news first, suggesting that Davis might be out for multiple weeks, possibly a month, which indicates it’s a Grade 2 strain that could require rehabilitation for three to six weeks.

If that timeline holds, the Dallas Mavericks‘ playoff hopes are slimmer than a spider’s web. Despite the addition of a 6’10” All-Star big man, the Mavericks are ironically running scarce on centers.
