The Minnesota Timberwolves started its 2024-25 NBA season on a poor note, losing to the Los Angeles Lakers. However, that did not affect the Wolves star man Anthony Edwards from capping a good display.

Interestingly, Edwards caught the attention of the NBA community for his recent remarks regarding NBA legend Michael Jordan. Over the past two seasons, Edwards has become much more well-known. His confidence has also increased since he recently claimed that he could have faced Jordan head-to-head during his NBA era.

Edwards, the first overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft, guided the Timberwolves to their second trip to the conference finals and was named to the 2024 second-team All-NBA. Before the start of the 2024-25 season, Edwards gave a recent interview where he made his claim about Jordan.

“They gon’ hate me again when I say this — I already know it, I would’ve been the guy that could match up with M.J. That would have been me. I would’ve been that guy that would’ve been guarding him, scoring back on him. I would’ve been that guy.”

Anthony Edwards told ESPN

In his most successful season (2023-24) to date, Edwards averaged 25.9 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 5.1 assists per game while making 46.1% of his field goals. In addition, he scored 27 points against the Lakers in the 2024-25 season.

Although his remarks regarding his back-and-forth relationship with Jordan may cause some people to take notice, that is nothing new for him. It will be interesting to watch how Edwards performs for his side in the upcoming matches.

Not the FIRST time Anthony Edwards spoke about Michael Jordan

Anthony Edwards once courageously said that Michael Jordan was the only talented player in his generation. In a Wall Street Journal interview, he said that doesn’t think that Jordan’s renowned generation had other talented athletes.

This was seen as a clear insult to the other players of that generation like Larry BirdMagic Johnson, and Hakeem Olajuwon, to name a few.

I didn’t watch it back in the day so I can’t speak on it. They say it was tougher back then than it is now, but I don’t think anybody had skill back then. (Michael Jordan) was the only one that really had skill, you know what I mean?

Edwards’ decision to contribute his voice to the debate has once again drawn attention to himself. Several experts and former NBA stars chimed in on their takes regarding his recent remarks. Many disagreed with his claims about Jordan being the only skilled player of his generation.
