WATCH: “Doing this to your idol is NASTY!” – Anthony Edwards is going viral for ‘baptizing’ Kevin Durant as Phoenix Suns get swept in first round
The Minnesota Timberwolves are headed to the next round of playoffs by defeating the Phoenix Suns 4-0.
Anthony Edwards brutally dunks on idol Kevin Durant to win in Game 4.
The young team of the Minnesota Timberwolves has officially swept the ‘Big 3’ of the Phoenix Suns in the first round of playoffs with a thrilling 122-116 win on Sunday. The team’s rising star Anthony Edwards ended his idol Kevin Durant‘s postseason on a high note by dunking on him to win Game 4.
Despite the close game, the Minnesota Timberwolves came out strongly in the final quarter to take control of the proceedings. With 2:20 minutes left in regulation, Anthony Edwards decided to extend the team’s two-point lead as he drove to the basket by jumping on Kevin Durant and Bradley Beal for a monstrous dunk. The dunk quickly went viral as it became the deciding moment of the game.
Despite the Phoenix Suns trying their best, the team could not take over the game after this. Edwards’ dominant 40-point outing was enough to stop Durant and Devin Booker‘s important performances. The Timberwolves now have won their first playoff series in 20 years with a sweep credited to their young talent.
Despite the T-Wolves being a great team, NBA fans did not expect them to embarrass the more experienced Suns. Phoenix did look like a better team in Sunday’s game than the previous three but lost control in the final moments. This is KD’s second sweep in his career and the first by his own fan.
Fans went frenzy over Anthony Edwards’ dunk on Kevin Durant
Edwards, on multiple occasions, has revealed that Durant is his childhood hero. During the series as well, Ant-Man admitted that Durant is his favorite player in the league. However, that has not stopped him from taunting KD and going head-to-head with him on the court.
To eliminate an idol in the first round with a sweep is itself a huge victory for Edwards. But finishing the game by dunking the said idol was too much for fans.
The NBA world was in awe of Ant-Man’s dominant finish over Durant as they reacted to the slam on social media. Check out some reactions from the netizens on X below.
The Suns are the first team to get kicked out of the playoffs this season. Now that the Timberwolves are qualified for the Western Conference Semifinals, the team will probably face the reigning champions, the Denver Nuggets as they are up 3-1.
