Minnesota Timberwolves superstar Anthony Edwards may be all of 23 years old, but he has steadily improved his game to become one of the best players in the league. The guard is now on the verge of defeating Stephen Curry‘s Golden State Warriors to return to the West Finals for the second straight time.

During the initial phases of the 2024-25 season, some, such as Charles Barkley, believed Edwards was focusing too much on shooting three-pointers. He believed the young star was not relying on what made him successful.

The Wolves star scoffed at the Hall of Famer’s suggestion and continued to shoot from beyond the arc. Soon, it became apparent that he was efficiently knocking down the three, which invariably helped the Timberwolves to consistently win games.

When the playoffs arrived, Edwards used the combination of this improved outside shot along with his usual inside play to dominate the Los Angeles Lakers. Now, he is on the verge of doing the same to Curry’s Warriors. While speaking with SportsCenter after winning Game 4, he revealed how he went about developing his outside game.

Let it fly. I told Steph I was working with him all summer. Big shoutout, big credit to him. He influenced me to be able to shoot the ball really well, so I went back in the summer and started working on it once I left him, and I got better at it.

Anthony Edwards said

The Atlanta native was referring to the time he spent with Stephen Curry preparing and playing in the Paris Olympics. He was inspired by the Warriors superstar’s relentless use of the three-point shot and wanted to develop the same. That led him to finish first in the league in three-pointers made.

Anthony Edwards had a great time playing alongside and learning from Stephen Curry at the Paris Olympics. They became close, and the young star was caught joking around with the veteran after their gold medal-winning game.

The Minnesota Timberwolves superstar has not stopped at Curry. He has been doing the same with the other two NBA Avengers, Kevin Durant and LeBron James. After returning from the Olympics, Edwards spent time with his favorite player, Durant.

He must have asked questions, listened to the two-time NBA Finals MVP to understand where he needs to improve. The same can be said about LeBron James. After defeating the Los Angeles Lakers in round 1, James and Edwards embraced on the court when the 40-year-old told the young star to take the next step.

To that, Edwards replied that he would connect with him, and James welcomed that. This shows that the 23-year-old is actively talking to the NBA Avengers, learning from them as he continues to develop. If this carries on, he might be on track to do a lot more than what people expected.

Anthony Edwards‘ half-time pep-talk galvanized the Minnesota Timberwolves, who were otherwise slacking in Game 4. The Golden State Warriors were neck and neck with the away team and had a chance to tie the series.

But then, that pep talk seemed to have worked. The Timberwolves came out of the second half firing on all cylinders with Edwards leading the way. His offense as well as his defense helped the Wolves close out Game 4 with a 117-110 score.

After the game, Hall of Famer Gary Payton, who was there to cheer on his son, called the young Wolves guard over and dapped him up. He also gave him his Seattle Supersonics jersey as a token of appreciation for how good he is. Edwards thanked him for it and walked away knowing he had earned the respect of a great player.
