“Witnessing greatness!” – Anthony Edwards explodes for 43 points to beat Nuggets in Game 1 leaving fans in a frenzy
This was a replay of last year's 1st round series, except that the Timberwolves were the Conference leaders for a long time this year.
Anthony Edwards puts his Minnesota Timberwolves team on his back to win Game 1 of 2nd round of playoffs against the Denver Nuggets
A clash of titans. That is what tonight’s second round of the playoffs were bringing to basketball fans around the world. With the defending champions Denver Nuggets waiting for the young and upstart Minnesota Timberwolves to show their real worth, they delivered. At the helm of it all was 22-year-old superstar Anthony Edwards.
Going up against the defending champions at their home was never going to be the best scenario for a team in the second round. With the Nuggets up by 4 at the half, their crowd cheered their team on as the 2nd half started. Edwards just took it all in and started to bring his game out. The Timberwolves started a rally that flipped the game around, with Edwards leading the way. But Edwards kept his best for the last, as he crossed over the much bigger Nuggets and used his step-back game to perfection.
Basketball fans already have seen some elite basketball from the 2-time All-Star. However, taking the game to the defending champions, especially in the playoffs, against all those much bigger elite defenders, was an altogether different problem.
Anthony Edwards delivered, finishing with a game-high 43 points. His clutch performances in the 4th quarter ensured the Denver Nuggets lost their first home playoff game this year. Consequently, fans are already excited to see how Game 2 goes.
Anthony Edwards shutting down the defending champions leaves fans in awe
Yes, the Minnesota Timberwolves did get some great production from all their players. Naturally, basketball is a team game. However, someone has to lead that team or set the tone.
