Team USA men’s basketball has done it. After being embarrassed at the FIBA World Cup last year, they found redemption by winning the gold medal at the Paris Olympics. All because of elite basketball from possibly the strongest basketball team ever assembled. Even then, they needed some spectacular performances from three of the best players in the world.
Most notably, Stephen Curry took over for Team USA in the last two games of the tournament. That said, Curry’s struggles in the initial few games brought out some jokes from Anthony Edwards. The Golden State Warriors superstar went live on social media while waiting in the tunnels after the game. At that moment, Edwards, sitting beside him, had some jokes to share.

It’s an epic troll that had Curry himself in splits. After all, he knows all too well about his struggles in the first four games of the Paris Olympics. However, to come through in the most opportune time has helped them win gold.
Stephen Curry shot 7.3 points per game while shooting 35% from the field in the first four games. In the final two elimination games, that jumped to 30 points per game. More importantly, he shot 62.5% from the field. That includes the incredible 65% from beyond the three-point line.
No wonder Curry’s youngest teammate on this Team USA squad brought out that joke. They all know his struggles made fans and analysts question his fit with the super squad. But when he got his spots and his shooting rhythm right, it all worked out.

After the game, the entire squad went back to those steps in Paris, where they took their iconic photographs. After taking their final pictures with their medals around their necks, they proceeded to pop champagne. As Anthony Edwards struggled to uncork his bottle, LeBron James made a joke.

James suggested that Edwards was struggling to pop his bottle as he has not experienced winning anything in the NBA yet. This brought out a round of laughter from the rest of the Team USA squad.
Anthony Edwards might not have experience in popping a champagne bottle yet, but all of Team USA knows it won’t be long. He was the most impressive among the younger players, not only at these Olympics but also in the past NBA season.
They all know sooner or later, the 22-year-old will turn out to be one of the best in the game. That growth will bode well for Team USA as they build towards the 2028 Olympics. They do not want to be embarrassed at home in four years.
