While New York City is famous for many things, only two perhaps define the heart of the city – The Empire State Building and Knicks fans. Knicks fans are infamous across the globe for being among the most passionate, yet critical fanbases in all of sports.

Hence, it’s no surprise to find out what Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards thinks of playing in the Big Apple. A viral audio clip surfaced on Monday from a preseason game between the Timberwolves and the Knicks.

The two franchises have been heavily linked over the summer, exchanging bad blood galore. During their last preseason matchup, a clip of an interaction between Anthony Edwards and a Knicks fan has emerged. Edwards can be seen telling Knicks fans why he would never play in the Big Apple.

Y’all ain’t finna be mad at me when I have an off game. When I play bad, y’all are gonna be like, ‘Boo!’ It’s 82 games I ain’t gonna be good.

Anthony Edwards said

Edwards is one of the biggest superstars in the league, with many calling him the next face of the NBA. However, even the Ant-Man knows that not every game can go his way in an 82-game regular season.

Playing in the Big Apple comes with big expectations and the Knicks fanbase holds players to higher standards than perhaps any other sports franchise. Knowing the hot and cold nature of the game, Edwards made it clear that he did not want to get booed by the passionate New York fans during an off night.

With a rivalry already budding between the Timberwolves and Knicks, it will be interesting to see the two meet in the regular season. The Wolves host the Knicks on December 18 at the Target Center, before squaring off at the Madison Square Garden on January 20.

Anthony Edwards wears his heart on his sleeve on the court. And his life off the court has been just as loud. The 23-year-old has been involved in several off-court controversies, primarily concerned with his relationships.

Edwards was recently involved in a drama involving his girlfriend and newly-surfaced baby mama. Amidst this, Edwards’ girlfriend Shannon Jackson came down to the Target Center to watch her partner play. This comes just weeks after Edwards filed for paternity of a child with another woman.

The woman in question is Ayesha Howard, who shares a child with Atlanta rapper Lil Baby. Edwards will be taking the online influencer to court, claiming that he is the father of her second child. With the case still undergoing due legal process, Jackson remains supportive of her beau Edwards.
