The Minnesota Timberwolves lost Game 3 of the Western Conference Finals to the Dallas Mavericks 116-107. It now put the Timberwolves on the brink of elimination with a 0-3 deficit. Star player Anthony Edwards spoke to the media after the game, where he remained positive despite the loss.
Anthony Edwards had a strong performance, as he scored 26 points, grabbed nine rebounds, and dished out nine assists in 43 minutes of play. However, the team struggled from three-point range, shooting just 30.0% compared to the Mavericks’ 50.0%. Despite the poor result, Edwards remains optimistic no matter what.
I never think the sky is falling. I'm always positive, always happy, been through the worst. So the sky is never falling for me.Anthony Edwards via post-game press conference
The Timberwolves have a must-win Game 4 in Dallas on Tuesday to avoid being swept. If they manage to stay alive, Game 5 will return to their home at the Target Center in Minnesota on Thursday. The winner of the series will advance to the NBA Finals to face either the Boston Celtics or the Indiana Pacers.
Edwards, the first overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft, has led the Minnesota Timberwolves to the playoffs for three consecutive seasons and made his first All-Star Game appearance in 2024. The Timberwolves are in the conference finals for the first time since 2004, and they need a comeback to make a deep playoff run.
Anthony Edwards speaks on the officiating in their Game 3 loss
Anthony Edwards expressed his frustration with the officiating in the Game 3 loss to the Mavericks, citing a disparity in free throws (31-17) and seeking consistency in calls. Mike Conley echoed this sentiment, as he also acknowledged some fouls but asked for fairness on both ends of the floor.
Anthony Edwards said at the end of the game:
31 to 17. They had 31 free throws, we had 17... They did a great job tonight, we just ask for the same calls.Anthony Edwards via post-game press conference
Edwards had a strong performance but Karl-Anthony Towns struggled with 14 points on 5-18 shooting as he missed all eight three-point attempts. The refereeing in the series has remained a point of contention, with both teams disagreeing with certain calls.
The Timberwolves face an uphill battle, as the Mavericks are 6-0 against them in playoff matchups. Minnesota seeks to avoid being swept in their first Conference Finals appearance in 20 years and will remain motivated to steal at least one game.
