Anthony Edwards' new Minnesota Timberwolves teammate and former Illinois guard Terrance Shannon Jr.

Former Illinois star Terrence Shannon Jr. has just realized his dream of playing in the NBA. The Minnesota Timberwolves drafted the 23-year-old guard with their 27th overall pick. However, Shannon Jr. would have to keep his behavior in check when playing alongside Anthony Edwards, after getting out of the crutches of the law in a s*xual assault case.

NBC Chicago revealed that last September Shannon was arrested and charged with rape. He was accused of grabbing a woman’s buttocks and reaching under her skirt. Although the charges were vehemently denied by his lawyers, he still had to testify under oath. The guard did deny the charges even though he was suspended indefinitely by the Illinois Fighting Illini. However, a federal court threw out the charges and overturned his suspension.

After missing 6 games, Terrence Shannon Jr. returned to the lineup and helped the Fighting Illini win the Big Ten Tournament title. His performances were also crucial to the team reaching the Elite Eight in the NCAA Tournament, only to bow out at the hands of eventual champions UConn.

Now after being selected by the Timberwolves, the rookie will have to stay away from trouble. As unlike the NCAA, the NBA is not so tolerant, and the former Illinois guard could lose his career completely. However, his addition makes for an intriguing Timberwolves lineup heading into next season.

Terrence Shannon Jr. to boost Minnesota Timberwolves’ NBA title aspirations

The Minnesota Timberwolves have only one goal. That is to win an NBA title. After reaching just 2 steps away from the title, they would like to give it another try this upcoming season. For that, they need to add some much-needed help. Fatigue caught up with Anthony Edwards and his superstar teammates by the time the Conference Finals came about.

Therefore, they will need more offensive input. They traded with the San Antonio Spurs for Kentucky star Rob Dillingham. Dillingham brings them much-needed scoring cover over the aging Mike Conley Jr. and a major upside over the long term. On the other hand, they drafted Terrence Shannon Jr. to take over from impending free agents.

The Minnesota Timberwolves took the draft route to bring in additions to their roster. Knowing very well that they do not have the option through free agency. They have brought in youth to develop over a period of time. Suggesting that they want to keep the NBA title window open for as long as possible.
