Anthony Edwards is on different level than young Kevin Durant or James Harden, claims Kendrick Perkins
Anthony Edwards was just 6 years old when Kevin Durant played in his rookie season.
Young Kevin Durant and Anthony Edwards
The Minnesota Timberwolves’ man-in-form Anthony Edwards just made his playoff debut by scoring 33 points against the Phoenix Suns in the first game. In a statement following ‘Ant-Man’s incredible performance, NBA analyst Kendrick Perkins compared Edwards to a young James Harden, Russell Westbrook, and Kevin Durant.
Kendrick Perkins and his team sat down to break the Wolves vs. Suns game on ESPN’s NBA Countdown. Perkins’ statement may come out as controversial, but with Edwards playing so well this season and the Suns losing 120-95 handily in Game 1, it does make sense.
I've never played with a young great player like that. It's no disrespect to KD, no disrespect to Russ or James Harden. That type of leader.Kendrick Perkins said
Perkins played alongside Harden, Westbrook, and Durant, who were in their 20s. Hence Perkins’ statement has more weight. He was aware of their level of skill when he was playing with them, but contrasting them with Edwards demonstrates how excellent Edwards is.
It was 2011 when Perkins was traded from the Boston Celtics to the Oklahoma City Thunder, and he played with young James Harden and Russell Westbrook. Though in 2014 Kevin Durant came to the roster and stayed for 2 seasons.
Anthony Edwards’ GOAT is Kevin Durant
It’s true how Anthony Edwards is playing, it’s not far that he will be winning his first NBA title. But what motivates him? Who is his GOAT (Greatest Of All Time)? Edwards idolizes Suns icon Kevin Durant, whom he faced today in a playoff game. In an interview with ESPN in February, the 22-year-old star chose Durant as his GOAT.
My GOAT, this going to sound crazy but Kevin Durant. I have always been a fan, just watching him play as a kid. He's the first 7-footer I've seen putting the ball on the floor, scoring off the dribble, so I've always been a big fan.Anthony Edwards said, speaking on ESPN with Malika Andrews
When Kevin Durant debuted with the Seattle SuperSonics in 2007, Anthony Edwards was just 6 years old. Now, Edwards has gone from idolizing Durant to playing with him in the NBA All-Star Game. Ironically, Edwards’ admiration for Durant drove him to compete against him and ultimately triumph over him. Despite Durant’s higher average at this stage of his career, it’s clear why Edwards chose him as his idol.
