“I’ve never been swept before,” Anthony Edwards ‘took it personal’ after losing 3 straight games

Anthony Edwards took it personal after the Timberwolves 0-3 record.

Anthony Edwards was not ready to go home without getting a win in the Western Conference Finals. After back-to-back underwhelming performances, something switched as the 22-year-old took matters into his own hands to take down the Dallas Mavericks. The Minnesota Timberwolves have successfully avoided a sweep and have forced another game in the series.

After sweeping the Phoenix Suns in the first round, Anthony Edwards certainly did not want to be on the opposite side of the embarrassment. As the Dallas Mavericks took a 3-0 lead, Ant-Man was unwilling to get swept in front of the Dallas fans. During the post-game sideline interview, Edwards stated that he did not want to add a sweep to his playoff record.

Even though I've been to the playoffs only three times, I've never been swept. So, I took it personal. I didn't wanted to get swept... not on their home court.

The guard received a ton of backlash for his poor shooting performances in the previous games of the series. Knowing the star’s competitive mentality, Edwards changed gears while coming into the elimination game. Ant-Man was not only the points leader of the game but he also came extremely close to dropping a triple-double.

Edwards scored 29 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists in the Minnesota Timberwolves win. After his incredible performance and statement, fans were again reminded of Michael Jordan for his ‘took it personal quote’. Now, the viewers will look forward to the next matchup as the Timberwolves will have the home-court advantage to stretch the series even further.

Anthony Edwards was in denial of the Mavericks’ series win despite going 0-3

The Timberwolves lost three consecutive games against the Mavericks which were all last-minute wins. No team in NBA history has ever come back from a 0-3 deficit in the playoffs series. However, Edwards was not yet ready to accept the loss as he still thought that the Timberwolves were a better team.

The Athletic’s reporter Sam Amick shared an inside conversation between Edwards and teammate Mike Conley. According to Amick, Ant-Man was upset by the team not playing up to their own standards. The star had some motivating words for his teammates in the locker room.

I still don't feel like they can beat us, bro. We haven't all been clicking at one time. One game. One game.

The Timberwolves guard received criticism for his statement but the critics were proven wrong, to say the least. On Tuesday, Edwards and the team showed great on-court chemistry, both offensively and defensively to stay in the competition. However, it would be interesting to see what the team does next as it is still a humongous task to win three consecutive games.
