“Frustration, man – I had so much frustration,” Anthony Johnson reveals the emotions he felt when Yoel Romero pulled out from their fight

Anthony Johnson on Yoel Romero
Anthony Johnson was supposed to face Yoel Romero in the opening round of the Bellator light-heavyweight Grand Prix on Friday, this was a match for the ages but Romero had to pull out from the fight due to failed medical exam stemming from an eye issue.

Johnson was set to make his return inside the octagon after 4 years, and he thought all of his hard work and training would go to waste, but they found a last-minute replacement for Romero, and now Jose Augusto will face Anthony Smith.
Speaking to MMA Junkie on Wednesday, he talked about the roller coaster of emotions he went through, this entire time, he said, “Frustration, man – I had so much frustration for a day, a day-and-a-half.”
Johnson added, “When you got your heart and mind set on something and it doesn’t happen, it can break you. It didn’t break me. It just frustrated me. But that’s in the past. I can’t think about Yoel anymore. I’ve got to focus on Jose.”
“Jose’s a monster. I went from a monster that’s older to a monster that’s younger, so it’s not getting any easier for me. But my hat goes off to Jose (for stepping up).”
“I don’t take the man for granted,” Anthony Johnson refuses to take Jose Augusto lightly

Even though Johson is a big favourite in this fight, he isn’t willing to risk anything by taking this challenge lightly. He acknowledged the danger that his new opponent possesses and he will be more than ready for it.
“I’m focused on what I can do,” Johnson said. “I just have to be prepared for whatever he throws at me. I don’t take the man for granted. He has nothing to lose, everything to gain. I know that. As long as I keep that in my head and just be myself, I’ll be fine.”
