The former UFC Light Heavyweight top-tier fighter Anthony Johnson is making his Bellator debut in this fight at Bellator 258. This fight was originally scheduled between Johnson and Yoel Romero but due to not clearing the medical examinations Romero was out of the Light Heavyweight Grand Prix.

Johnson made an impact in the UFC Light Heavyweight division and he fought two times for the title against Daniel Cormier but faced losses in both title attempts. After facing multiple injuries and staying inactive in UFC for a long period of time he has been cut from the promotion.
