Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury battled it out a second time, to decide the top man in heavyweight boxing. While both men battered each other to the stretch, Usyk reigned over, again. Now – the question arises – what happens to the Brit boxer after his second defeat. English peer Anthony Joshua is a name floating around for a while. Turki Alalshikh has pitched in on the matter.
Oleksandr Usyk defeated Fury with a lopsided 116-112 on all three judges’ scorecards to retain his WBC, WBA, and WBO heavyweight titles. Anthony Joshua, with close ties, performed paly-by-play scoring duties during Saturday’s heavyweight championship rematch. AJ could very well be in line for British Battle, projected for so long. Saudi GEA and boxing chief Turki Alalshikh is open to that.
After Usyk’s domination, Daniel Dubois stepped up and made a call-up to rematch the Ukrainian. The Champ awkwardly veered to His Excellency for it. Usyk held all blimps of import until he had to vacate the IBF Gold for not squaring up with the compulsory bracket fight “Dynamite” Dubois. Now, the simmering Dynamite has his chance. So… while those two duke it out, Turki Alalshikh is all-in for Tyson Fury vs. Anthony Joshua.

Turki Alalshikh: "If Dubois wins in February (against Joseph Parker), I want to see Usyk and Dubois again. And I want to see Tyson maybe with Joshua or something, we will decide."

Under the promotional didactics of Frank Warren, Fury has always had the safety to fall back on former WBA (Super), IBF, WBO, and IBO flame Anthony Joshua. After his disastrous loss to Dubois, AJ was priming up for such a “Battle of Britain” to get back tp top against a losing Fury.
Back then, Fury was coming off a thin win at the Riyadh opener and Alalshikh had promised a cross-current for both. Dubois is the in the smacking middle of this chain as well. But what of Dubois though? Is he on the right track?
Did the ‘Dynamite’ blow up too soon on a call?
Tyson Fury emerged from nowhere to beat Wladimir Klitschko in prime fashion and make his mark. A two-timE wold heavyweight boxing champ, he took the world by storm in foreign turf. His win over Klitschko (2015) was in Düsseldorf, Germany. The then-king was engaged in a thrilling trilogy with former WBC Champ Deontay Wilder as well. But can IBF Heavyweight Dubois boast the same rep?
Oleksandr Usyk (23-0, 14 KO) blew past Dubois already on August 26, 2023, in Wroclaw, Poland. The boxer does have momentum with his recent domination over Joshua, but not enough to edge over the “Cat”. That’s because the Simferopol, Crimea, Ukraine flagbearer is 2-0 over AJ already.
Daniel Dubois could have waited a bit more than to share a spotlight with the champ. In hindsight, him head-rushing with others trying to weasel a fight would be better optics than just “let’s run it back“. His strong take over the low blow controversy in their matchup was too loud as it is.
His callup was premature to say the least. He also has a title defense against Joseph Parker in February, in Riyadh. So – like Saudi boxing chief Turki Alalshikh stipulated, the Dubois-Usyk idea hinges on a big “if”. Conversely, what if he loses and there’s just no more history or gold to bank on against Usyk?
Usyk would also bank better with another matchup with the likes of Fury or Joshua. Unlike the Brit brethren, Dubois isn’t that big of a star yet, outside UK. So without his gold, he won’t be that much of a pay-per-view spotlight at all.
