Los Angeles Angels Anthony Rendon receives social media critique after landing on IL once again in the season. It was reported that he was suffering from back pain, but he believes he’ll be able to return to the lineup quickly.

However, fans hugely disbelieve his claim stating it’s another “season ending injury” as the third baseman has been out of 419 games out of 625 in Los Angeles. He’s only played 33 games this season, after being sent to a 60-day IL in May with a left hamstring strain.

He missed games for two months and returned on July 8, to once again be placed in IL with back issues. Even during his short period of return, he has struggled to score on the field, recording 6 RBIs, and no HRs, with an OPS+ of 59.

Fans are more irked about his IL breaks after his admission that baseball has “never been a top priority for me” earlier this year. His comments fired internet fans to blast him for his remarks. He further added,

This is a job. I do this to make a living. My faith and my family come first before this job. So if those things come before it, I’m leaving.

After joining the Angels in 2020, he missed 104 games in 2021 followed by three trips to IL and undergoing a season-ending surgery on his right hip. In 2022, he underwent right wrist surgery and missed 115 games.

In 2023, he was diagnosed with a bone bruise during a July 4 game, but he sought external suggestion, claiming he had fractured his tibia. Ultimately, that cost Anthony Rendon 119 missed games last year.

Fans react to Anthony Rendon’s latest IL announcement

With Anthony Rendon back in the IL, Los Angeles Angels star Mike Trout is announced to be back in the lineup. He too has been dealing with health issues. Infielder Michael Stefanic has also been recalled as per the team statement.

Fans reacted strongly on social media since his first IL news in July. One of the X users noted, “I CANT TAKE THIS SHIT”, while another said, “Translation: that is a season ending injury.” While another blasted saying, “get him off the team.” Check some more reactions below:

Rendon has signed a $245 million contract for 7 years with the Angels, along with a signing bonus of $4 million, and a base salary of $38 million as per Spotrac in 2024. Despite his strong start with the team in the pandemic-plagued season, his career seems to have been on a steady decline unfortunately.
