The Indianapolis Colts are back to winning ways in Anthony Richardson’s first game since his return to the starting lineup. Richardson instigated a come-from-behind victory in the final moments of the game.

After falling behind to an Anders Carlson field goal with just under three minutes left, the second-year Colts quarterback led a 70-yard drive the other way, inside the Jets’ five-yard mark. Richardson then scrambled to give the Colts the lead but failed to convert the two-point try.

Head coach Shane Steichen decided to waste the remaining time on the clock, securing a much-needed win (28-27), which increased their chances of a playoff spot (currently 5-6). After the game, Richardson spoke with CBS Sports AJ Wilson, who asked how it felt to complete 20 passes from 30 for 272 yards, one touchdown, along with 10 carries for 32 yards and two rushing touchdowns.

I just [wanted to] show that my hard work and preparation is still there. I’m still here for my guys. They did a great job today playing for us. Shoutout to the defense for getting the ball back to us. I just wanna thank God for this opportunity and for allowing us to come out here on the field today to get a victory. We feeling grateful for everything.

Anthony Richardson snaps the Colts’ three-game losing streak

The Colts were hardly anyone’s favorites to get a playoff spot, but most expected Richardson to go out on the field and play his heart out. However, lackluster performances and his lack of intent forced Steichen to bench the former Florida man and start veteran Joe Flacco instead.

The 39-year-old started four games but only managed one win before the Colts hierarchy turned to Richardson once again. He delivered the win, ending their three-game losing streak. Wilson asked Richardson to elaborate on it.

We are very tough as a team. That’s something we [built] throughout the whole season. Even at training camp and OTA, we knew that we are a tough team; we got resilient guys in the locker room. It’s just us fighting through all of it—just trying to find a way to win.

Richardson added.

Besides Richardson, running back Jonathan Taylor contributed with 24 carries for 57 yards, and Josh Downs caught five passes for 84 yards. The win will instill more confidence in Richardson, which he will need in abundance to defeat the 9-1 Detroit Lions next week.
