Anthony Richardson was supposed to be the raw quarterback talent that the Indianapolis Colts banked on to be their franchise star. But until now, his resume has proven anything otherwise. One can blame injuries and not having enough experience for these problems. But when one subs himself out of a game, it poses a whole plethora of questions.
Former star Pat McAfee led the line of questions when asking if the player was healthy enough to take on the rigors of the NFL. The bizarre substitution showed McAfee a lack of desire to be on the field. To give the second-year QB some benefit of the doubt, he was running around all game.
But even then, that could not explain why he would leave the game midway, as multiple quarterbacks in the league rely on scrambling to get away from pass rushers. Naturally, this became the most pertinent question reporters asked Anthony Richardson at the post-game press conference.
Tired, I ain’t gonna lie. That was a lot of running right there that I did. I don’t think I was going to do that next play. So, I just told Shane I needed a break right there.
Anthony Richardson said at the post-game press conference
#Colts QB Anthony Richardson on taking himself out of the game in the 3rd quarter: “Tired, I ain’t gonna lie. That was a lot of running right there that I did … So, I just told Shane (Steichen) I needed a break right there.”

The 22-year-old was honest with why he subbed himself out. One could point to the play calling in the game against the Houston Texans that saw the former Florida star run a lot. But he is a dual-threat QB who has to perform both ways. That too, coming into the league with a team that was used to playing off a pocket passer.
Fans unload onto Anthony Richardson
Football fans know that the going has not been easy for Anthony Richardson so far. He has played in a grand total of 10 games so far in his career. That too, with his injuries keeping him out for a couple of this year.

Such inconsistency will not help his offensive line understand his nuances and block better. Therefore, just like how dual-threat QBs have done in the past, the star has to be in peak health to respond to any situation.
Fans know that the least they expected from a professional NFL player is to play a full game when healthy. Subbing oneself out due to losing their breath is not a good sign. They unloaded their comments onto the clipping of Richardson, explaining his situation. Check out some examples of those comments below.

imagine if the troops quit everytime they got "tired". This clown wouldn't last a day in basic training.

This is the face of the Colts franchise saying this.

Horrible look.
Put Flacco in full time. Richardson isn’t ready to be a NFL starter.

The Indianapolis Colts are set to play five more games before their bye, where he will face some stud defenses. Anthony Richardson might not get a breather, but he has to get his endurance back in order before facing them. As they will surely make him run around all day.
