The Toronto Blue Jays have finally gotten some of their luck back with their latest top-market signing of Anthony Santander. According to several industry sources, Santander agreed to a 5-year deal worth $92.5 million.

The deal includes an opt-out and can level up to $110 million over six seasons if he prefers to stay with the team. It also includes a 2030 team option as per his agency, the Beverly Hills Sports Council. The deal is pending a physical.

The news was released on Monday and the club is yet to talk about the signing. Santander would be the perfect fit for the Toronto Blue Jays as he can add power just behind Vladimir Guerrero Jr

Guerrero Jr. is also coming off a critical year as he’s entering his final club year. 2024 has been a painful year for the team as they lost several players in free agency to their rival teams.

The Blue Jays targeted Shohei Ohtani during his free agency but the two-way star chose a 10-year $700 million deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers. They were also in the mix for Juan Soto and Corbin Burnes but lost both of them to the New York Mets and the Arizona Diamondbacks.

They were also among the top 3 finalists for the Roki Sasaki race but got eliminated at the last second. Now with Santander and Guerrero Jr. in the lineup, they can build a roster surrounding them.

Last year the Toronto Blue Jays finished last with a poor score record of 74-88 in the AL East. On the other hand, Anthony Santander is commanding a strong season with the Baltimore Orioles after recording career highs in 44 home runs, 102 RBIs, and 91 runs scored in 155 games.

He’ll be a perfect fit for the team, but his signing was something many did not expect. One X user noted, “This is AWESOME WE DID SOMETHING!”. Another said, “Ross actually got a deal done. Amazing.” Check more fan reactions below:

Since Santander rejected Orioles’ qualifying offer the team will get a compensation pick. The Blue Jays will give up their second-round draft pick and $500,000 in 2026 international bonus pool money.
