Anthony Sinisuka Ginting vs Chen Long: Chen Long from China and Anthony Sinisuka Ginting from Indonesia are set to lock horns in the Men’s Singles Badminton semi-final in the Tokyo Olympics on Sunday, August 1. The match is scheduled to take place at the Musashino Forest Sport Plaza BDM Court 1. While Long is placed sixth in the BWF World Rankings, Ginting is one place above him at fifth.

Ginting has been impressive thus far in the Tokyo Olympics. In the Group J matches against Hungary’s Gergely Krausz and Russian Olympic Committee’s Sergey Sirant, he won in straight sets. In his Round of 16 game against Japan’s Kanta Tsuneyama, he didn’t drop a set either.
However, Anders Antonsen from Denmark gave Ginting a run for his money in the quarter-final. The 24-year-old won the first set 21-18 but lost the second 15-21. In the deciding, the match went right down to the wire, but in the end, Ginting ended with a 21-14 victory.
Long, in the meantime, began with a dominating 21-10, 21-9 win over Estonia’s Raul Must. In the next game against Spain’s Pablo Abian, he won 21-11, 21-10 to give an account of the force he is. However, from there on, the 32-year-old has had to fight hard to secure victories.
In the Round of 16 game, he lost the first set 8-21 against Malaysia’s Lee Zii Jia. However, the veteran came back to clinch the next two sets 21-19, 21-5. Against Taiwan’s Chou Tien-chen, he lost the second set 9-21 but managed wins in the other two to book a berth in the semis.

In their last eight meetings, Ginting has won as many as six times. When they last met in the semi-final of the World Tour Finals in December 2019, Ginting won 21-15, 21-15.
