Former UFC light heavyweight title challenger, Anthony Smith, getting arrested this week startled the MMA community. After all, Smith was considered a family man who once fend off an intruder to protect his wife and kids from harm.
TMZ reported that the police arrested the current UFC desk analyst on late Monday night and charged him with three felonies. At that time, Smith was yet to be presented in front of a judge and details regarding the arrest was limited.
MMA Junkie recently procured statements from Sarpa County Attorney’s Office regarding the matters of the arrest. The details are terrifying to say the least.
After appearing in front of a judge, the court set bail at $500K for Anthony Smith as long as he stays away from his wife, Mikhala Renee Newman. The couple dated for a long time before tying the knot back in 2019.
The Attorney’s office revealed that Smith grabbed her and pushed her into the vehicle following an altercation at a bar in Gretna, Nebraska. He allegedly threatened to kill her if his wife didn’t leave with him. MMA Junkie also procured another statement.
The attorney’s office further alleges that investigators concluded Smith tried multiple times to hit his wife with the vehicle when she escaped during the drive, but that she was able to maneuver out of the way and avoid physical harm. A warrant was issued, and Smith later turned himself in, according to officials.

Smith faces three charges in the form of domestic violence, terroristic threats, and false imprisonment. As reported, the ex-UFC fighter trying to run over his wife multiple times will not help his case at all.
The MMA veteran also waived his preliminary hearing so that means the case moves to district court for trial, according to WOWT in Nebraska. His next court appearance is set for August 17.
So far, UFC and Paramount have yet to make a statement. After all, Smith works as a desk analyst for Paramount+ after the company secured the rights to UFC events for a record $7.7 billion deal.
Josh Hokit trolls Anthony Smith after getting arrested
Anthony Smith fought 61 times in his professional MMA career, which included 36 victories coming by way of knockouts or submissions. Smith once revealed that he didn’t graduate high school and had to work odd jobs before finding success with MMA.

He is known for not ducking any competitions and fought the top contenders at light heavyweight during the last 7 years of his UFC career before retiring. Despite fans acknowledging the toughness of ‘Lionheart’, his analysis and criticisms have always rubbed people the wrong way.
His beef with former two-division UFC champion, Alex Pereira, is well documented even though the pair squashed their differences. After his recent arrest, a new name has come forward to troll Smith as Josh Hokit couldn’t help but diss the retired UFC fighter.
The premise of Hokit’s tweet is about Smith predicting the rising heavyweight star to get knocked out by Derrick Lewis at UFC Freedom 250. The prediction went wrong as Hokit secured a TKO win over ‘The Black Beast’ at the White House to keep his undefeated status intact.

Moreover, Hokit claimed that Smith was the latest entrant to his new ‘Incredible Hok’ curse that has gone viral in the MMA community. Recently, the heavyweight star revealed that ex-ESPN analyst, Ryan Clark, joined Alex Pereira and Ilia Topuria as a new victim of this curse.
So far, Josh Hokit remains the only active UFC star to talk about Smith’s arrest. However, the rising star refused to pass judgement on what transpired between Smith and his wife. It remains to be seen if more UFC fighters talk about the incident in the upcoming days.
