The New York Yankees are once again suffering a dip in form in the month of June. On Wednesday, the Bronx Bombers lost a 6th straight game following a costly error from Anthony Volpe. Fans would later slam him on social media for his mistake in this game.

The Yankees, who are top of the American League East Division, had gone quiet with the bat in recent matches. Before the loss against the Los Angeles Angels on Wednesday, the team had gone 3 games without scoring a single run.

In the 3rd game of the 4-game series against the Angels, the bats of the Yankees finally woke up. The team broke the streak of 30 scoreless innings with a solo home run from Jazz Chisholm Jr. in the 2nd inning to level the game at 1-1.

Cody Bellinger then gave the Yankees the lead in the 4th inning with a solo home run off his bat. The big moment though came in the 8th inning of the match.

With the game tied at 2-2, the Angels were able to load the bases with one out. In this, Jo Adell would hit a grounder towards Volpe. In what could have been an inning-ending double play, Volpe would fumble up his chance.

The ball would first bounce off him. He would then make an errant throw towards Oswald Peraza at second base. The Angels would take full advantage of this error from the shortstop and score a run to make it a 3-2 game.

This error turned out to be very costly for the Yankees as they were unable to get another run in this game and ended up losing 3-2. This was their 6th straight loss, the worst stretch they have had all year.

To make matters worse for Volpe, he was the last hitter in the game. With a runner in Paul Goldschmidt at 1st base, the shortstop was facing Kenley Jansen. He would end up missing a 95 mph fastball in the middle of the zone and stuck out swinging which ended the game.

While speaking to the media regarding his error, the shortstop claimed that he needed to be “aggressive” to make the plays.

Right off the bat, I’ve got to be aggressive. Go get the ball and make the play. As far as that, that’s all it is. It’s the first read off the bat.

Speaking of his hitting, Volpe went 0-for-4 with 3 strikeouts in the loss on Wednesday against the Angels. He is now 1-for-18 in his past 5 games. As a result of this, his batting average has dropped to .235 for the season.

The Yankees on the other hand, are left with a 42-31 record. The Tampa Bay Rays and the Toronto Blue Jays have both been in fine form recently and are just 1.5 and 2.5 games behind the Yanks, respectively.
