Thursday hit hard for the New York Yankees as they not only won the series against the Kansas City Royals with a 3-1 record but also re-ignited their old rivalry from the late 1970s. An almost full-blown brawl took place between them as both teams fought for their playoff dreams.

During the sixth inning Royals third baseman Maikel Garcia slid hard into Yanks shortstop Anthony Volpe in an attempt to give his team a much-needed boost. Following his failed attempt, Volpe patted his back and moved on, but things started to heat up with Jazz Chisholm Jr. marching towards him.

Jazz Chisholm Jr. and Miakel Garcia exchanged a few words and within seconds benched cleared as the players ran towards the field in an attempt to get a part in the melee. However, it was reported that no fists were thrown.

When asked why Chisholm did what he did, he boldly stated that he thought Garcia was about to harm his teammate Anthony Volpe and he just wanted to protect him. Furthermore, the NLDS villain called him “a sore loser”.

I just felt like he tried to go and injure Volpe because he was being a sore loser…I’m not gonna go and try and injure somebody if they’re winning a game, and I didn’t like that so I told him we don’t do that on this side and I’m always gonna stick up for my guys.

He further added how Garcia usually goes off on social media platforms citing some of his previous comments on his Instagram. Chisholm said he wasn’t going to do that, however, he is ready for a faceoff if anyone tries to harm his teammate.

During the Yankees-Royals clash, even NY pitcher Gerrit Cole tried to have a one-on-one with Maikel Garcia. But thanks to catcher Austin Wells, Cole got held back. He noted, “I don’t like him coming after my shortstop.”

The stakes are high. Everyone’s playing hard, everyone’s trying to win. They’re playing for their season. He went in hard, but we’re always going to stand up.

Yankees coach Aaron Boone expressed how there were fewer fireworks during the Yankees-Royals clash compared to the 1900s. “If there’s some upset over the slide, just go back and show a little Hal McRae/Willie Randolph and we’ll all laugh at ourselves,” he said.
