Former NFL punter Chris Kluwe found himself in the midst of controversy last week after he was arrested in California for protesting against the Make America Great Again movement. He attended a city council meeting in Huntington Beach and protested against their decision to erect a plaque with the words ‘Magical Alluring, Galvanizing, and Adventurous,’ a clear reference to the President’s popular abbreviation.
Chris Kluwe compared the MAGA movement to the Nazi movement and went as far as to claim that Donald Trump’s followers “have replaced a swastika with a red hat.” He attempted to engage in civil disobedience by walking onto the main stage. He was subsequently arrested and released after four hours in custody.
Chris Kluwe released a statement after his release, confirming that the police who arrested him were nothing but “polite and professional.” While his protest gained the attention of fans and critics of Donald Trump, it wound up costing him his job at a local high school.
The former punter revealed that Edison High School sent him his termination papers on Wednesday. Kluwe understands his actions have consequences but regrets not being able to work with aspiring football players anymore.
I’m bummed that I won’t get to work with the kids anymore, because they always got excited when they figured out I played in the NFL. I think this exemplifies what MAGA is all about. They don’t care about harming the community as long as they can make themselves look good. It’s happening here in HB, and it’s happening nationally across our country.
Chris Kluwe told TMZ
He has been coaching since 2019 and the unfortunate reality is that only a handful of parents have reached out to support him after he was fired.
Chris Kluwe has constantly voiced his dissent against social injustices
The punter remains uncertain of what the future holds but his priority until he can find out what is next will be to continue speaking up against the MAGA movement. Kluwe has received offers from candidates in the Democratic party attempting to convince him to run for office but that is not a part of his agenda.

Chris Kluwe has never shied away from standing up for a cause and defending his take no matter what the consequences. In fact, he is convinced that the Minnesota Vikings fired him over his activism for same-sex marriage rights. In a detailed piece he published on Deadspin, Kluwe admits that he is “pretty confident” that the Vikings chose to move on from him because of his pro-stance when it came to same-sex marriages.
Kluwe spoke out against the Minnesota Gay Marriage Amendment which proposed to define marriage as a union of one man and one woman. It was voted down and now, same-sex marriages are legal in Minnesota.
